Noteworthy people

OK. In the Job’s was a douce thread it was mentioned that lots of unknown and little-known folks don’t get their “props”. This is kinda self evident, but hey I agree with the thought. So it seems like it would be cool to have a thread to “toot their horns”. And rather than waiting from them to be worm bait, ashes or even cryogenically frozen, we can even do it while their still walking around. (Not that I’m saying let’s skip dead people either…it’s just a little nicer to get credit when you can hear about)

I’ll kick it off by saying: Alan Kay is megacool (wikipedia article). The wikipedia article seems reasonably unbiased so you can just go read for yourself.

So, who do you think deserves more credit?

Great idea.

Will Wright! I love his talks: http://g4li.org/news?topic=Will%20Wright

And he made The Sims, the only game to crack the girl market. i haven’t seen or heard of anything that has come close to being popular with girls since.

I think you forget Dance Dance Revolution. It’s highly popular with girls. Might not have sold as much copy as The Sims but there are many similar games around so it’s hard to judge.

Shigeru Miyamoto

Yeah I do know a girl who bought that. Still, not nearly as popular as The Sims. Maybe that’s because you need to buy a console machine, the tread-mat, etc which drives up the cost.

Yes! And your post was perfectly verbose…really, what more does one need to say?

And I’ll admit that I’d never heard of Will Wright.

I’m having fun already (maybe I should get out more).

Pretty sure Myst was the first one in that department, no?

Anyway, I’ll add Peter Molyneaux to my list of gaming greats. Sure he’s jumped the shark lately with Fable, and his mouth was always bigger than his ability, but I still love his style and humor.
