Next LevelUp Guests (Including Scott McNealy)

All,

2 of the next 3 guests are confirmed for the next taping of the LevelUp program

  1. Scott McNealy - Chairman and Co-Founder of Sun Microsystems
  2. Jamil Moledina - Director, Game Developers Conference
  3. Dr. Richard Marks - Sony R&D and inventor of the EyeToy

Questions for these guests?

-Chris

Can I have a job writing games in Java please?

Endolf

For Scott McNealy, the obvious questions are about Sun’s commitment (if any) to games development outside of just the mobile phone market.

Does he have any view on the possibility of getting a JVM on the PS3 or Wii? If not, where does he see the future of Java gaming?

For Jamil: What uses of Java in games is he aware of in the games development world?

Just added the 3rd guest - Dr. Richard Marks, inventor of the Sony EyeToy.

Get those questions together!

-Chris

That’s great!
I’d like to see such innovative games using special input devices written in Java
I’ve written myself a very simple eye-toy clone using Qicktime4Java to access the built-in iSight of my macbook pro - never tested it on other machine, but on that one performance is great and I do all image processing in pure inside the VM!

Personally, I think this could be a great chance for java games. I mean, there are good libs for accessing webcams (eye-toy) and microphones (singstar/karaoke revolution). and others like the WiiMote can, via bluetooth. Nowadays, I almost exclusively play these games (no high-end graphics and Mio$ budget is needed  )

How are you positioning current and future sony add-ons like ET relative to the Wii?

Do you think you can get Bill Gates… since he is stepping down Microsoft =D

How about Sun’s new JSE Embedded technology run on the PS3? Seems like that would be the suited for that type of environment.

Will Java developers be able to produce applications to interact with the EyeToy, and if so when will an API be made available?

For Richard Marks: What are the chances of a JVM on the PS3?

…to flesh out that last post: consider it as an answer to C# and XNA on the XBox 360

if it’s too off topic it’s ok,

for Scott McNealy, now that sun’s 25(hurray),how would you define sun(/ sun’s image) today, What should it be if differend from what it is now? As a whole and in the game market.

Seeing as he has ‘security clearance’ and a ‘business background’ what can he tell us about project darkstar?
