Newbie Needs Pointers

Hi

I’m a software developer for some years now, mainly in the Web Based area. Recently web programming has become slightly tedious and dull, so I’m looking for a new challenge in my life, seems to me the one of the most challenging coding is done at the gaming level. So I thought I’d pop down here and start learning. But frankly I’m lost there doesnt appear to be much documentation or general guidance on the site for teh Newless Cluebe(or whatever).

Can you help me with some pointers please.

Thanks

Andy

I started with some of the NeHe tutorials (http://nehe.gamedev.net/) which have been partially ported to Jogl. This is a good starting point. If you are happy with Jogl you can keep using it. If you like high level APIs then you can switch to Xith3D (for instance).

Hi

all the ported NeHe’s are in jar files how do I actuallly access the source?

Thanks

Andy

jar files are zip files. Rename the jar to zip and open it in winzip.

Your a genious give that man a beer!!!

and then a journey began, hmm what shall I make first. Think I may start with a rather dull tetris clone. Then move to something original from there.

If anyone else has some advice/pointers I’m always happy for a helping hand.

Cheers Guys.

i was under impresision that usage of word “POINTER” is being considered blashemy here :stuck_out_tongue:
