New to Java Game Development, Hiyo!

Hello all!

I’m just some guy living in Pittsburgh, PA working a rotating 8-4/4-midnight job. I’ve been investing much of my (little) free time into re-learning Java from my early college days through tutorials and creating a game (via libGDX) and pushing myself to create a future for myself and family. I’m not super smart, nor am I exceedingly witty, however I do consider myself a jack-of-trades which has kept me afloat for several years now ;D. By no means do I consider myself a Programmer or Software Engineer (Never got the degree :frowning: ), but I keep on moving forward none-the-less.

I’ve been a lurker on these forums for about a year now and I must say, I REALLY do enjoy the atmosphere that exists here! Everyone is generally helpful and I want to be apart of that one day. For now, I’m the big noob, who will undoubtedly ask many questions. I do hope I get to be someone who can offer sound advice to others and my questions and the responses I get from them will help others who start out just like me.

Again, hello everyone, thank you for this site and having me! I look forward to sharing with you all!

P.S. When I’m not overly embarrassed by how terrible my work is, I’d be more than happy to display and share what I’ve been cooking up!

Welcome!

indeed, welcome!

with your great attitude I think you will be come a valued member

It doesn’t matter how you start, it only matters for what you contribute (and gain) from the forums. Learn and contribute as much as you can. Welcome to JGO. ;D

Weclome!

Welcome aboard!

My only pieces of advice:

  • Don’t be too shy to participate
  • Don’t be too stubborn to learn

Cheers!

Welcome! As you probably know, this forum is great for learning! I’d say I have acquired (ooh fancy word) more then half of my game development knowledge from this site, it really is amazing here!

I usually dont write in these welcome threads.
But I like Pittsburgh.

Thanks all for the big welcome and encouragement!

As for Pittsburgh, I think it’s starting to turn into a Tech city from a Steel city. So I’m liking it and looking forward to starting up a nice tech business here!

Salutations friend! I look forward to seeing what you do!

Welcome, welcome!

I just recently started using JGO as a means to learn Java, and it definitely does not disappoint! You picked the best language and the best site. So far so good :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome, and an interesting story you got ;D It’s always inspiring to see people try to find a new way for themselves. Good luck! And don’t be embarassed to show whatever you cook up: showing things and receiving feedback is the fastest way to learn.
