New forum proposal for odejava.dev.java.net

I am asking a new forum to be created for odejava project. This forum is expected to get some traffic as it allows programmers to integrate existing physics library (ODE) on Java applications.

If ODE itself is not known to you, check
http://q12.org/ode
http://www.java-gaming.org/cgi-bin/JGNetForums/YaBB.cgi?board=xith3d;action=display;num=1069584768

Or download demos from
http://odejava.dev.java.net

Yes, it would be great to have odejava forum here, say, in “3rd Party API’s” section.

My vote is +1 for that.

Yuri

+1

+1 from me too ;D

-1 for now.

First, lets see wether there really IS much traffic. And then, go to the physics forum where currently is near-to-0 traffic.

IMHO we already have too many forums.

Good point Herkules. I’d prefer own Forum, but as the hierarchy of the java games forums is quite simple, there might be tendency for the first page get bloated.

I see also goodsides if odejava discussion is set to existing Physics forum, at least then all people that are interested on any physics library is taking part of odejava’s discussions (hopefully).

The ultimate solution is a comprehensive and fully working Java PE, before that odejava might be good solution. Hopefully both fronts collaborate with each other.

Summary: I assume that someone states clearly when ‘voting’ is over, so we can start writing threads to Physics forums or to odejava’s forums in a week or so.

Wasn’t going to vote (since it isn’t nice to be negative) but I’m with Herk on this one. -1

Although I do think there should be room for evaluating how much traffic goes through on odejava and opening a forum later.

Kev

Then we can start immediately - nothing stops us from using “Game Physics” forum. Anyway, it’s never too late to start new forum.

Anyway, I will let our Moderator to make decision if odejava topics are general enough or rather project-specific.

Yuri

There was a time when Xith3D was a single thread in the Jogl forum. Now it’s more active than any other forum here. It’s really difficult to say how much activity there will be.

Hint for posting in the physics forum: If the subject starts with [ODE] everyone knows that the thread is ODE specific, so people who are not interested, can skip it.

Agreed. Please post to the physics forums and if there is enough traffic, we can discuss opening up a new board.
