New feature: privacy plugin

Dear JGOers,

I’ve been giving this a lot of thought in the last months and I’ve finally reached the conclusion that to ensure the continuity of JGO we have to defend your privacy with unprecedented effort. In my opinion more websites should steer in the direction of making all traces of their visitors anonymous by default. For this reason all usernames will be changed to anonymous. This brand new feature is soundly based on the security through obscurity principle, which I believe should be an integrated part of a well designed website.

To reveal your identity to others, simply PM me and if I manage to identify you, your name will be disclosed, for everyone to see.

With kind regards,

  • Riven

P.S.
I’d like to hear your feedback on this one, as it’s one of the most important changes to JGO since 1999.

I’m part of the Facebook/Twitter generation and I think everything should be made public. A PM is crass, please make my account name visible to others.

FINALLY! I have been waiting for this update for months! I love you Riven, thank you for finally protecting my privacy! :-*

LOL ;D

Cas

I’ve added a few of you to the promiscuous list. Please make yourself known if you have nothing to hide.

I don’t get it . What is wrong in displaying peoples nicknames (which they can by any mean choose something totally random) ?
Am I missing something ?

OMFG. :-\

This is so totally wrong!!!

Isn’t it after noon where you are?!? ::slight_smile:

I do not believe in culture.

But really funny

check the date

what about realtime GPU based forum obfuscation? Was the caesar cipher proposal rejected? The idea was to request a one-time pad via paper mail for every new thread.

Here’s anonymous, anonymous and anonymous at a recent JGO conference in Seattle:

Oh wow I think I met them before! :stuck_out_tongue:

ouch, I fell pwned !

You should see my PMs!

Could you make my name visible again pls? Ty

I usually prefer to see who I’m talking to, well you can still see it by just moving your mouse over the anonymous name but it take longer.

Did you undo it entirely? I don’t see any more anonymouses.

Ofcourse, it’s April 2nd now.

I’ll keep the javascript anonymous effect in this thread though. ;D

LOL, this was fucking classic.
