New feature: necro thwarter

Some members seem to be rather fond of necroing threads. The message that is shown after hitting ‘post’, informing the poster that the thread is severly outdated, doesn’t deter these people.

In all these years, I can’t recall a reply that actually was worth such a revival. Typically people use the search function of the site and just plonk whatever they are working on at the end of whatever topic they stumbled upon, forcing everybody to plow through outdated messages.

Therefore, I proudly present the feature everybody has been waiting for…

  • topics are frozen after 180 days of inactivity

Hurray!

Include game threads? (WIP, showcase, featured)

Every tech related forum should have it IMO. 180 days seems like a good bet for this particular forum since topics don’t tend to zombify so quickly. For a Stackoverflow or an OTN I’d have opted to set the deadline to 2 months if it were up to me.

For the WIP its actually a good thing, keep the progress going or have your thread necro’d 8) The other two are good points however, you’d want people to be able to leave a congratulatory message or ask a question no matter how old your game gets.

Good point. I excluded Showcase, Featured and Wiki (as if! ;D) from the boards to freeze.

So I need to post a new Thread, if I want to revive WorldOfCube? :frowning: :’(

PM me when you want to revive it.

:frowning: I’ve posted in old threads.

You agree with me 99% of necros are inappropriate, right?

Also, (probably I just didn’t see it yet…) Could you please add a Warning message explaining why the topic is closed? (Like in Gamedev.net)

It would be better to exclude the articles board also. Newbies can ask doubts on them.

@Riven - sadly yes.

There. Done.

People can post a new thread with a link to the old thread if they want. Seems reasonable.

Nice.
Nice.
