New feature: glorified threads as 'articles'

Every thread-owner now sees the [REQUEST ARTICLE CONVERSION] button at the top of the thread in the button group.

Guidelines when applying for an article:

  • Your initial post (‘the article’) must be written in the style of an article (doh)
  • The article should have a proper structure with paragraphs, or even chapters.
  • The content of the article must be comprehensible when read as an independant page.
  • The article should contain links to the previous/next articles, if any.
  • Inclusion of sourcecode encouraged, the code-blocks will be fully visible (no vertical scrollbar)
  • Usage of images and screenshot is encouraged, JGO will host them if you wish.

Click the Request-button and your thread will be reviewed as soon as possible.

Pretty cool! Thanks for your time and effort on JGO

Good idea!
I was thinking the other day how handy it would be if that big empty space just above the search box held some ‘quick links’ to threads which answer the most commonly asked questions. Article-ising such threads would be no bad thing.

That’s actially a much better idea than a separate sub-forum: making articles of threads that request it and listing those threads somewhere prominent.

When I viewed that on IE7, there is a big white space above and below the text.

Why are you even using IE?!?

Its at work :frowning:
I use Firefox at home.

Just added the backend.

I updated the initial post with the guidelines

May we nominate certain threads to be articles too? There are some really good ones that I could find but whose owners might not request.

Feel free

After 3 years I felt compelled to finally fix the problem that it was rather hard to figure out who actually wrote the article… :expressionless:

Now add a time stamp lol

Is this feature still in beta?

Anyone getting weird graphical errors being displayed when viewing “articles”?

When you’re replying to an article, I don’t see the topic summary as well as the comments left by others. This will be added in very soon, right?

Will the articles be automatically moved to Articles & Tutorials?

Will the articles be categorized in our profiles? Those who view our profiles will then be able to see our projects, our WIPs, and articles that were published.

It seems you have set your browser zoom level to a value >100% - teh horrorz

Ok, I guess implementations never take considerations of zooming. :’(

It’s hard enough to make it work across a few browser engines, each with half a dozen actively used major versions. If you’re, zooming, you’re on your own
