New feature: appreciation

Right under the nickname of a member, you see what appreciation level they have reached.

You can give a fancy JGOer an appreciation point by clicking the [appreciation++] link right below it.

I hope everybody likes the positive feedback!

Either I have gone blind or I don’t meet some requirement for the [appreciation++] link to appear.

Edit: It’s appeared!

There was a post-count threshold of 350. I lowered it to 250, so you can see it

If anybody has a suggestion on what should be the threshold, just let me know. I mean… we want to encourage n00bs giving appreciation to somebody that helped them…

I appreciate that  , thanks.

Not sure what a sensible minimum would be, it feels like 250 posts is quite a lot for the less talkative amongst us (it’s taken me 3 years to accumulate 291).

I think 5 is a reasonable number of posts.

Hmm, I have 750+ posts but I can’t see the ++ bit…

Where is appreciation–?

Maybe it appears after you did 5 post in the new forums

Nah, we shouldn’t have such freaky bugs.

Hey, Shannon! Can you appreciate me pleeeze?! I feel unappreciated!

Where is appreciation–? I want people to be able to properly appreciate my posts.

It’s not like it’s hidden very well.

I deliberately say it out in the open, so that people won’t try figure it out and secretly vote people down.

It is possible, just keep in mind that I removed it for a reason: positive feedback is great, negative feedback (by anonymous voting) feels horrible and unfair.

That would diminish the genuine appreciation directed at Riven.

I’d appreciate him too - if I could!

Yes, I too cannot see the appreciation++ link

Me neither. Maybe something went wrong and only mods can?

Mike

As always with bugs… it should just work.

At least, I can reproduce the problem, when logging in with another account.

Okay, I went deep in the database, and it seems the database from ‘old jgo’ was even more messed up than expected  I already fixed a bunch of issues, but there are a lot of records there that make little sense…

There were 6 membergroups (out of 15) that didn’t have the ‘karma_edit’ permission. The membergroups are defined by postcount, so this resulted in:
people with 100 posts could ‘appreciate’
people with 200 posts could not ‘appreciate’
people with 300 posts could ‘appreciate’
people with 400 posts could ‘appreciate’
people with 500 posts could not ‘appreciate’
etc etc etc.

Should be fixed now!

Yup, visible to me now - you have been appreciated!

At this rate, it’s better to make Appreciation logarithmic or at least the square root :persecutioncomplex:

With the slight modification of everybody having at least 1.00 appreciation.
