new DRTS/FlyingGuns site

Hi community!

I’m trying to setup a website for the DRTS-project.

Currently, a phpNuke CMS is established and online.

But obviously I’m by far to stupid to configure/tailor it appropriately to make it look like a true DRTS site instead of a phpNuke-just-installed site.

Volunteers to care about that? Add screenshots? Organize a d’load section? Create a blog?

Any help is deeply appreciated!

I don’t have time myself, but … good move :).

Grml … phpNuke refused to create users due to some strange bug and is no longer free in future releases.

Now trying XOOPS. Still has problems with user registration bc. SourceForge doesn’t seem to allow to send emails.

Any suggestions for a suitable CMS?

Welcome to my pain! This is why JGF still hasn’t moved to a CMS (in the last 3 weeks I’ve not found any that satisfy the major criteria:

  • they work
  • they have instructions
  • they can be easily modified (and no, I’m not talking “change the logo that appears in the top left corner”)
  • they run tolerably slow instead of snail-slow
  • they’re free)

Current personal bias? JGF will probably be a proprietary CMS sitting on top of a free GrexEngine license, using free open-standards for almost everything (data = XML, presentation = VTL, logic = XSLT, layout = CSS, etc…) so that even if the GE fails/dies, all data and presentation and logic can easily be made to carry on working using free software…albeit slower, with more bugs, and fewer features :(.

Hm, but all this stuff (XML, VTL, …) need some executing software …

AFAIK, all I have is PHP and MySQL

Trying XOOPS now, still being under construction.

Seems to work, needs some configuration now…

Maybe you need something more like a Wiki e.g. Tiki. If you need a CMS, which can easily be modified, you could test typo3. However you need to learn a while to use it.

Disclaimer: I’m not saying these programs are good.

I’ve been playing a bit with Mambo, and moved mojomonkeycoding to it. Still not quite where I want it to be, but it’s the better of the three or four I tried.
