New demo applet

I’m posting this here, because there’s no forum where it really belongs and after the Java 3D-forum’s “degradation” to a Java3D-only-forum, this is the best place to ask for opinions IMO.
This is not really about games…it’s just that i want to update my webpage (http://www.jpct.net) and i think it’s time for a new applet-demo of jPCT to replace the spinning earth (finally…).
I’m thinking about something small and simple that doesn’t look too bad and it came up with this:
http://www.jpct.net/demos
However, i’m not sure how well it works on slower machines (don’t have any… ;D ) and if it looks good enough to attract visitors.
So i’m asking for opinions here. Is it ok? Does it suck? What can be improved? (And no…i won’t let you shot the poor Mr.Grey).

Pretty cool. Nice sync of the feet and the ball. Would be nice if you could move the POV.

It runs well and looks cool.
Some comments though:

  • The blue hues are quite stylish, but the ball’s colours are quite ugly in comparison.
  • Mr Grey’s animation could be a bit better.
  • It would be nice if you would be able to rotate the camera around Mr.Grey.

Keep it up

Thanx for watching! I really appreciate your feedback.

The ball’s texture isn’t final. I was looking for something that looks “footballish” somehow and this was the best texture that i have found. I tried other ones, but they looked worse.
I can’t fix Mr.Grey’s animation because i didn’t made him…i’m just (ab)using him. I agree that the animation is not perfect, but i can easily live with that. He would look much worser if he would be made by me…
I’m thinking about allowing rotations for the camera. The problem are the bubbles. They do not cover the whole space but only the section that is visible from this point of view.

I’ve changed the sphere’s colors to blue now…is that better?

Very nice  Perhaps make the camera slowly orbit the Grey?

And I can’t help but feel that the background could be more interesting than just a static bitmap. Not sure what it could be changed to though, sorry. :-[

Yes
It doesn’t necessarily need to be blue though, just as long as it doesn’t have too many colours like it was.
Of course I’m just nitpicking and it’s just an opinion and I’m no expert at artwork either…
