Networked game books

Hey everyone

I am currently writing a thesis about a peer to peer architecture for games. I have found lots of articles covering the subject but no specific books. This puzzles me cause if one can make a book called GPU gems why not network gems?

So if know of any books concerning network development for games in general I would like to know of them.

Thanks

Middy

We have a single chapter in our book (Practical Java Game Programming) but you can also try posting this in the Network Forum as well…

I’m writing one at the moment

Just think about how many games grahpics “sell” and how many networking features “sell”, and how fast the two markets move in terms of new technologies ;)…

Anyway, the last two GPG books both had a fair few chapters on networking issues, and there are two books “MMOG Gems 1” and “2”, although they aren’t brilliant.

A book I found very informative was Networked Virtual Environments (ISBN 0-201-325577-8 ). Full of very good stuff, but not cheap; get it from the library if you can (I got my company to buy it for me :)).

Hey davidaprice. I have found the book online. It seems great but yes its exspensive. It will take me 14 days to get it and it costs 70 $. On top of that ad 15 % toll and then add 25% tax. Thats a 100$ (+ shipping I think they add toll and tax onto)

:frowning:

Since you’re writing a thesis, can’t your academic institution get it through an inter-library loan or something?

Tried and failed…

Anyway I got it used for 24$ from the US .
