I see that they have added Java Web Start support to J2SE projects in NetBeans 6.0 M7… that’s nice… editor improvements and Subversion support… all good…

Lots of other nice things too… I’ve been running the 6.0 dev builds for a while… there are some stability issues, but it mostly works. I have yet to try the Web Start stuff in it though, but hopefully that will help people with deployment.

Thats great if we have an webpage put things on. As i don’t the world will never know my progaming prowess.
I like netbeans too (i even carry it in my pen so that can use instead of eclipse in uni).

yes, nice features are in every milestone.

In general NB 6 seems quite promising: I love the new simplicty of code completion and refacroring (n more overloaded context menus)! :slight_smile:

But, I dislike the new icons… :-\

Most of the editor improvements look like things that have been in IDEA for ages. Maybe I’ll try it again some day, because of things like the free profiler and GUI editor, but I doubt I will use it as my primary code editor.

  • Is it true that NB did not have Local History before this release? I can’t imagine how I would survive without it anymore.
  • Is it possible to have autosaving and automatic closing of tabs in NB? I’ve already quite well managed to unlearn the redundant habbit of pressing Ctrl+S and closing editor windows, so that if I move to another editor, these usability problems (having to manage saving and editor windows manually) hit me immediately.
  • Have NB’s refactoring capabilites improved? The last time I tried NB (maybe 5.0 or 5.5), they were far too limited.

I am using IDEA at work a lot and while NetBeans isn’t there, they are definetly on the right track. After changing the hotkeys to mimic IDEA, I sometimes even forgot to switch back to IDEA after doing some GUI-stuff :).

One thing being a showstopper for me, is the missing tab autoclose, that is made worse by limiting the tabs to one line :confused: But hey, maybe I’ll fix this one day in my long planned NetBeans-Module “Ideafication” :slight_smile:
