netbeans 4.1 error in linux

Hi

I am using Netbeans for some time now, but I only used it with Windows. Now I switched to Linux, installed Netbeans 4.1, but now I get a Permission denied error when I start it as a user. It still starts, but it behaves strangely in some parts and I think this is because of that error. When I start Netbeans as root I don’t get these errors. I already tried giving the user all rights for writing into the netbeans directory, but it hasn’t helped either.

Does anybody know how to fix that problem? I’m pretty new to Linux, so also “simple help” is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Arne

Some things that might help solving the problem:
I think it’s because Netbeans tries to write data, where it’s not allowed to. I’ve installed netbeans in /opt/netbeans-4.1/.
I’m using Suse Linux 9.1.

Ok I worked around the problem by using eclipse instead. Eclipse seems to work well.

Can’t comment because I’m using Netbeans on another platform where it works like a charm…

I think the mailing list “nbusers@netbeans.org” is for you.
http://www.netbeans.org/community/lists/top.html

Many developers of Netbeans read and write to this list so you get competent and fast help, usually.

Before posting there, don’t miss to search the archive, possible online with “Browse Archives”.

I’ve posted there already and they weren’t able to help either.

Odd.

Im using NB 4.1 imstalled in /opt as root under SUSE9.1

Works perfectly from my regular logon.
