While i would happily help out personal endeavours that are targeting a profit… I feel reluctant to just donate my time and experience to a corporation without compensation. I would also expect that a game company would have a certain level of expertise and would not be looking for such examples if they were already established.
Im working at this company that makes applications for other companys, this apps are like Administration, Selling, and stuff like that.
I, myself, want to get into game development more deeply (as for a living) and this company wants to know about the posibilities.
So they asked me to show some examples to study (I been working on Android and some OpenGL ES the hole 2013 and they know) and see how long will it take to make one.
Since i was having a hard time working on my own project (just porting Duck Hunt (NES) to Android with LibGDX) just for showing and it will not be finished till at least one more month, I thought about asking for some free source code you may know about. I been working on this since October 2013.
Once i get started with a game at this company, i can get real work experience in game development and soon get a job at a game company or work on my own.
You shouldn’t get into game dev before you know at least something about it. Sounds like you dug yourself a big hole, now you need to figure out a way to dig yourself out.
If I were you I’d tell the company that game development is not just something that they can do; it has to be learnt. Games are designed in a completely different way to other kinds of apps. There are so many techniques that one needs to learn. One cannot simply create a game with no knowledge of how a game is created.
It’s like trying to fly a plane after learning to drive a car. You’ll understand what some of the controls do, but that won’t get you off the ground.
Off topic, I am training to be a pilot, so I wouldn’t crash!
On topic, this hole I’m talking about is what you’ve got yourself into. You can’t just learn game development in a few weeks, it takes time and patience and lots of effort and trial and error. Rather than accepting the position, you should’ve said you don’t know much about it, and you need lots of time to learn, and then ask for a team.
Oh, yeah yeah.
Well first, i have studied Beginning Android Games 2nd Edition (Mario) and completed it in 2013, other tutorials too. Made some tries and modifications to the examples.
I do know a little about game development.
They only want to see how it works in the background (code, structure) to make a (bad) guess on how much time will it take to make one. They just asked me to show them some examples, if they see its viable, will do/try it. I have some background on it already.
It not that i took the job or anything, im already working there and developing apps for Android mostly.
Havent made a hole for me yet hehe
As I said, im working on a Duck Hunt game with LibGDX, i think it will take at least one more month to get it done, and its just for showing and will share the source code here, for the ones that are beginning as I am.
Thanks for the response, it does help me
