Nanotron Version 0.79

I’ve posted the newest demo for Nanotron at http://www.cowgodgames.com/games/nanotron.php . Basically, the demo will remain unchanged except for bug fixes and minor tweaks. It’s only the full version that still needs more work.

Most of the things people suggested when I previously posted about Nanotron are implemented. I’m just posting this new topic to see what people think about the game now and to ask for comments and suggestions.

Hi Fletchergames,

This was the first time that I have seen your project so please don’t get angry when I repeat earlier comments.

Congratulations on the overall game! This could be fun.

First of all I think it will be better to get a Java WebStart version on-line. Or a Java Applet.
Downloading and running an EXE is not really what most people like to do!
It allows you to make the version available for Mac and Linux; I could test it for you on
those platforms as well.

The controls of the pad are way to slow for my taste. Please increase the speed of the pad times 3
at least! (maybe an in-game otion?)

The sound effects are OK, but I didn’t like the background music. It doesn’t really match the graphics
and the other sound effects.
Is there an option to turn music and/or sound effects off?

The characters are not aligned wih the rest of the graphics. The border lines, pad(s) and bullets are
of a different atmosphere. They look like comming from a science-fiction type of game.

This comment is really lame but I give it anyway: When finishing a level I would like to score more than 131 points
Maybe multiply the scoring with 1000 ??? ;D

Please don’t get thrown back with these comments. I think you guys are on a good track.
If you could do something about the speed of the pad it will definitely make the game more fun for me!

Best regards from

It used to be an applet, but it has to be an application because we want Real Arcade to distribute it.

I’m not planning to support Mac and/or Linux because I don’t have Mac/Linux computers to run the game on. I hesitate to have other people test the game and just go on their word that it works. It may work slightly differently on Mac/Linux, and they might not notice that there’s a problem. Theoretically, I could probably install Linux on my laptop if I partitioned my hard drive, but I don’t want to risk ruining my only computer (which is what usually happens when I fool around with operating systems).

I can increase the bat’s speed. I think I’ll do that since I’ve heard from a few people that the game is too slow. It won’t be an in-game option, but I might just increase it.

Personally, I like the background music, but I can add music/sound on/off options when I add the volume changing options.

It’s true that some of the art is kind of technological-looking while some of it is biological-looking, but I hadn’t really thought of that as a bad thing. I’ll tell Eduardo about your suggestion, and he can decide what to do.

Does anyone else want to scale the score up? I have no problem with that, though I’d rather multiply it by 10 than by 1000.

Hi me,

I’m the artist creating the graphics for Nanotron.

First of all, thanks for your feedback; it will help us improve the game. I think you are right about the sci-fi looks of the bar, backgrounds and some other elements. That has crossed my mind before… I will experiment with some more cartoonish elements that I think will match the germs better.

Thanks again for your feedback me,
