NanoBlaster

hi all,

i finally finished my second game:
http://www.cocktailz.org/nb.html

maybe the timing is a bit odd since everyone seems to participate at the 4k gaming contest. i actually tried to bring the code down to 4k since the game is only 2D and there are no great features but i got stuck at 22k after removing all images, sounds and the collision response code. i have no idea how you guys do that.

anyway, i hope you like the game.

looking forward to read your complaints, thoughts, whatever …

I like it! Pretty good fun. Well presented too.

Cas

I picked up a purple thing with grey spikes and it froze. Music was still playing, but the UI was dead.

Mac OS X 10.3.7 JRE 1.4.2_05

Absolutley fab!

4K is great because you will quickly be done and can blame all the shortcomings on “it’s only 4K”. If you are already done , and don’t have any shortcomings in the game, I see no reason for making it 4K (unless you really want 10 duke$).

Quite nice AI, and plenty of cool powerups. Have not quite yet understood how the forcefields really work (only played it a few times), but nevertheless fun.

I’ve actually had a similar game on the backburner for some time and I also saw that your previous game:
http://www.cocktailz.org/nano.html
is quite similar to my:

Cool game! Ran fine on my old 800MHz as well.

Very nice game. Cool gameplay !!

Btw, what is 10 duke$ ?

[quote]Btw, what is 10 duke$ ?

mlk gives 10 of his duke dollars to the winner, so in reality this is a compo for fame and glory in the geekworld  (You get 30 duke$ (?) for just signing up to Java forums)

we just tested it on a powerbook g4 and it worked (only with 27 fps but it worked).

sometimes the game locks on my machine too. but i haven’t found the reason yet.

would you mind doing some more tests?

thx. your racing game has more cool features than mine. the smearing of the mud on the road when you slide is awesome!

Worked great, played it for ages, needs some AI though since I had no player 2 to play against me :frowning:

read the intro text carefully. you can change the number of players by pressing the keys 0, 1 or 2.
you can change the AI level with the ‘i’ key from 0 to 10.

10 is most times pretty hard to beat (for me).

WOOOOOOOO

I beat the hardest PC 11 - 10!

I used that switch command thing towards the end (switch players) and man, that was a cool match!

This is an awsome game, really well done!

Just one thing, how do i go back to the start menu game after ive finished a match?

DP

r = reset

just as mentioned on the start screen

ooooh, so thats what the reset thing is for! I thought it was to reset the game or something (as in start fresh). But then again, why would i want to start fresh if Im winning!

Keep up the good work, id love to see some more effects and colours in there…

 thx. more gimmicks 'n stuff will be added in version 2 … if i will have the time for it.

Wow! really great game  Ran perfectly smooth on my crap video card and I got the hang of it pretty quickly. The main menu was totally explanitory and I had no trouble getting started. I surely need practice as I can only manage to beat the level 1 guy by a few points  However, the AI is surprisingly smart. Except for when it gets stuck in blocks ;D

thx a lot. it’s nice to have so much positive feedback.
i was surprised too by the AI. i only implemented some basic rules and the bot was suddenly almost unbeatable. it took me a while to beat the level 10 bot.
sure, i should have done more to avoid the getting-stuck-in-a-block problem. i played around with pathfinding (A* algo) quite some time ago but it was simply too complicated for me.

wickit game, man.
i like it but the steering is a bit un-precisely

j!
