Music Licensees?

Hi, I’m not very familiar with the legal issues behind copyright and licenses with music, but I want to know whether I can use music from Youtube channels like this one: http://www.youtube.com/user/BlackmillMusic in games.

Am I allowed to use them for non-commercial purposes? What about commercial purposes? To be more specific, I wanted too use 10 seconds of music in a game intro movie and Youtube video intro.

I couldn’t find any information on this on the channel page or online (information that I can understand, lol, not too familiar with legal terms).

Have you looked on OpenGameArt.org, they have tons of sound effects and music you can use free of legal restrictions (most of the time, make sure you read the poster’s comments)

I can’t provide any legal advice on youtube videos though.

For youtube music channels, if there a smaller channel, I am sure if you message them, they may be up for letting you use there music in your game. I know if you make youtube videos and you are going to use music from other music channels, they need to give you permission, or your account can get a strike.

another link for some sounds are:

http://www.freesound.org/

and Krasse’s (who is a member on here) Abundant Music generator. The songs you make on it are public domain (I believe, unless he changed it)

and if you can’t find the link from his thread

abundant-music

Thanks so much for that abundant-music link, that generator is amazing! I had no idea computers could do this.

Just another one. It’s a featured project “Music For Your Game” on this forum.

If there is no mention of a license, then it’s copyrighted, otherwise you must respect the terms of the license. If it’s copyrighted, you must get the consent of copyright owners before using such a content even for non commercial use (otherwise this is a copyright infringement and the copyright owners are allowed to send a DMCA notification or “notice and take down” to Youtube support).
