Music composing [Solved]

Hi lads!

I’d like to first apologize in case I didn’t post this in the correct forum board :persecutioncomplex:

So, I’m currently coding this game inspired by Scottish celtic mythology. As one can guess, I need music for my game. With help from my lil’ bro’ and his piano, I now have a few music scores. Problem is, I can’t exactly record the piano without having ugly noises in the background… Moreover, I’d like some of the music to be played with other instruments (an awful lot of bagpipes :wink: ). So here I am, looking for a (free) software, or a simple way to play music directly on my laptop, using records of instruments in order to match my music scores.

Would anyone be so kind as to point me an easy way of doing so? ;D

Maybe there is a free version of a notation program like Sibelius or Finale (doesn’t Coda have something called Allegro?) that lets you do playback. Or another notation program. If you could code it to MIDI, there might be a way to even play it back using Java’s MIDI and record that, but I’ve never gone that route. Audacity is free and a good product for audio recording and editing, but doesn’t play back MIDI unfortunately, as far as I know.

There might be a 30-day trial on a Native Instruments product, like Kontact or whatever their orchestration program is. I use Finale (paid for it) and Sonar Homestudio (paid for it), so haven’t looked too deeply into this topic.

you could also “cheat” and use cgMusic http://codeminion.com/blogs/maciek/2008/05/cgmusic-computers-create-music/ - computer generated music, makes some nice sound tracks completely randomly (well sort of)

But are there no copyright problems with using that? :o
Anyway thanks :slight_smile: I won’t be using it because I already have all the tracks I need for my game, but it’s still good to know :point:

nope its just like using any other software to make music (garageband, etc), also you cant really ‘claim’ something to be yours if its randomly generated by a computer.
