Modern Shooter - a very modern FPS game

Totally forgot posting about this one!

It’s a very short (5 mins) game I made for the 7dfps jam (“make an FPS in 7 days”). It has everything a decent FPS should have nowadays, but… Well, just see it for yourself.

Play it here

Made with libgdx, runs as an applet (sorry :)).

Wait, so how is this modern?

It has a nice graphics style, but some parts look a little off.

Can’t try it right now, so I don’t know what gameplay is like.

When you play it, you’ll see :).

It will be better in other format, like desktop jar* or android since it is libgdx.

*) better again with libraries out from the jar ::slight_smile:

There is a downloadable jar at the bottom of the page: http://thotep-7dfps.s3.amazonaws.com/modern_shooter.zip
And no, it totally wouldn’t work on Android imo. You need a physical keyboard to play this.

Why not using Java Web Start?

Edit.: Ok it is a text-based first person shooter.

Reminds me of those adventure games on the C64, great memories – except for the parts where they would stop out to ask you for some random word out of the manual

great =D, you need to be really fast typing…but…why I woke up in the desert and what happened to the wagon ???

That was quite cool.

Still don’t see how it’s modern though. :emo:

Pretty sure it’s sarcasm, HeroesGraveDev.

Yeah, as far as modernity is concerned, its far from it . =)

This is nothing like a modern shooter. You know why ? Because this is actually challenging D:

Did you play it? Its really the prototype of a modern FPS

Plays it again

Are you sure? Doesn’t seem like it.

well, you hide, you shoot, you hide, wait for regeneration, then you shoot, you hide, wait for regeneration… doesn’t that ring a bell???

Err Time Crisis? I defeated 3 series of it on PC and one of them again in arcade machine. No I didn’t waste lot of coins because I was skillful

Yeah I was just saying that this is actually a little harder than todays crap

Quite enjoyed the game Thotep! Perhaps because it took me back to the days of Sierra’s Police Quest II. Good job. 8)

It is not only the hiding and shooting thing. The way just goes straight north. You don’t really seem to have a choice.

I like this message, because it shows how much the most succesful games today resemble themselves and how they are not really difficult or challenging.

I’ve tried this game and all I got was two trojan warning by Windows Defender. Is it a Java security problem ? Anyone else has the same issue ?
