An FYI for those interested

Aug 11th, 2005 – Miniclip.com (www.miniclip.com) is giving would-be game developers an opportunity to score a $3,000 contract for a flash, java, or shockwave game. Additional information can be found from the contest website at www.miniclip.com/gamecompetition.htm.

Submit a Flash, Shockwave or Java game by November 18th 2005, and you’ll have a shot at the $3000 prize. The games can cover nearly any subject, style, or genre, so long as the game is complete and does not contain offensive material. Additional restrictions are the game must be under 3 MB in size. A Miniclip.com panel will decide the winner after the final submission date.

Sob. I spend a day playing miniclip a week or two ago, and nearly all the games are utter crap. There were 3 or 4 good games out of 100 or so I played, and most of the 100 were so dull or broken or buggy you got bored sensless within about 60 seconds.

Someone must be very smart at their business development! :slight_smile:

EDIT: for instance, the average quality of games I see people positing on here (java-gaming.org) is way higher than the average quality of the ones I was playing on miniclip - mainly much better gameplay, much better controls, but slightly worse graphics

Interesting. On your site, you’ve specified versions for Flash or Shockwave, but not Java.

Are we talking Java 1.1 or can we assume at least 1.4.2?

The two important notes are it isn’t exactly my site, I am just a press release monkey :slight_smile:

Important note number 2 is that because of this I don’t know if it meant java 1.1 or 1.4.2: However, I will ask and find out for you.

On the Miniclip site if you follow the buttons Help>Requirements, there is a link to download the JRE.
It takes you to a Sun site that lets you get 5.0, its about 16meg. You can also order it on a CD, but you have to pay for that.
