Minecraft

After princec’s AMA thread, look what just turned up on Reddit

This has been around for a while, hasn’t it?

yeh sorry, I must be getting old, didn’t notice it was submitted almost 9 hours ago

As any “big” game, there is of course some hacking attempts… Sadly, this time it’s LulzSecurity. So yeah… Might be down a while, and databases stolen. Hope you’re handling this well. All the other really big companies have been unable to prevent attacks from LulzSecurity.

I thought that was just a straight ddos on the login server, no actual security breach. Have you seen something to indicate there’s more to it?

They’ve later announced it was just a DDoS. They usually steal a lot of data on their attacks, which got me alarmed…

Ha, didn’t see this reply way back in April.

I thought there had been a Minecraft Q&A on Reddit a long while ago, but maybe I was wrong.

[quote]So far 16,162,0201 people have registered and 4,019,489 people bought the game

4 million… just wow! And still something like 7000-11000 new sells per day

Yeah, it’s really mind blowing!

Yup, it’s out of beta and hits the big 1.0 (er, except it’s actually 1.9, but we’ll ignore that  ).

I don’t know if Markus still reads jgo much these days, but congratulations man. It’s freaking epic.

* Orangy Tang runs off to update Tectonicus to support the new blocks…

yeah, somebody was telling me something about that last night, I wasnt listening intently, but they were talking about something to do with alpha vs. beta accounts.

And it gets a perfect score (10/10) from Eurogamer

Still pretty buggy IMHO. Minecraft wiki is still your guide to avoid bugs!

Cool, congratulations to all involved. I’ll update it and have a look.

In other news, Minecraft pocket edition kind of sucks. Games designed specifically for iOS are better, like Junk Jack.

Anyone knows what features have been added in the Release version?

Contrgats to this success. Especially bringing the java-platform to mainstream gaming.

(Also means that minecraftplayers can and want to start Java games and got Java installed for it, wich is good for all of us here)

There is a new realm called ‘The End’ which has a dragon boss, once you beat it the game ends.

Anyway the full launch can be seen below

when I heard that girl after 5 minutes, I was like “AAAHHHH!!!” and then closed it…

at 9.20 there is a funny Music Video.

Noone makes one for my games :frowning:
yet 8)

Seconded - it’s awesome!

Main changes I’ve noticed with 1.0:

  • villagers (annoying, useless, just there to be slaughtered, basically)
  • endermen don’t die in daylight, and teleport frequently, a lot more scary than before
  • there’s a LOT more animals around (chickens, cows, sheep)

Hi

Markus has done a great game but lots of GNU Linux users complain because Minecraft works bad with OpenJDK on some machines, some players had to use Wine to install it without problems which is a complete nonsense for a Java game. Minecraft is nice but it has caused mainstream problems too.
