It’s almost disgusting that people are using a painfully obvious joke tweet from 2012 to push this news even further into “legitimacy”. There’s articles all over the web popping up mentioning this tweet now.
$2 billions are like half of what Star Wars was worth, it’s crazy to think that this little indie game created quite recently by one guy as a hobby is worth half of the Star Wars empire George Lucas built.
Let’s be honest, there’s only so far Markus can go with Minecraft. It may be today’s sensation, but in 2-3 years who knows, games fade out into nothingness all the time.
I would accept $2b simply because I know the game isn’t worth that much money, and use that money to invest in all sorts of other activities, initiatives, startups or whatever. Do what Elon Musk did when he sold his stake in Paypal, go out and do more, create SpaceX and Tesla. The world will still have Minecraft, and probably more of it, but it will also have Markus investing wisely.
Yeah ultimately I agree. Plus he could still make games on his own and his name as notch will never get unpopular.
A secret plan, Like make Minecraft subscription based and, Shut down bukkit/forge servers? That would be the ultimate cash in, In my opinion anyways.
Problem is a very large majority of the MC community is under the age of 14, and thus, probably can’t afford said subscriptions.

This might have more to do with access to the user base, not the actual income generated by the game. There is a whole generation of kids that just love Minecraft. That is all they want to do. It is truly huge.

If I understood it correctly, there is no evidence of him having sold it yet.
It’s clearly more than a rumor, though Reuters says it is not a done deal yet. They say there will be an announcement on Monday.

Reads like this is a done deal. $2.5 billion sounds like a good retirement plan at what 35? I don’t think all the pension funds combined in my country have that much money.
But I don’t know if Markus owns Mojang fully or not. He’s said to be “co-founder” of Mojang so that implies he’s not the sole owner.
I think it’s split between 3 people.
obviously its an established company so the board would have to take a vote on it. markus is the chairman of the board iirc and probably has the most shares in the company so his response would have the most weight.
and each employee probably has a little bit of equity, dont work for anyone if they dont give a tiny bit of equity 
Markus has a 40% stock share in mojang , if its sold he gets 40% so he would get about 1 billion USD from the deal if its at that price. I would personally take it. Weird to think that he first developed minecraft on here though.
If they do buy it, they will most likely ruin it like they ruin everything else they buy.
I remember a time when my Skype was not covered in Ad’s and I wasn’t forced to sign up with an MS ID thing.

I think LWJGL should get 1-5% for being the reason Minecraft is what it is
