Markus bought a new house

This isn’t really gaming related per se, more of a related by proxy

A candy room, great views, 8 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms in Beverly Hills for 70 million dollar. It sounds like he’s having fun with the money!

A video of the house:

I suppose he can sit in there all alone and wonder what went wrong with the rest of his life.

Or surrounded by lackeys, hangers-on, leeches and scroungers pretending to be his friends, as the case may be.

Cas

Incredible house. Markus is a hero.
It does look like a suitable place for minecraft HQ with the blocky architecture and flat lines everywhere
I still hope that one day I’ll make it big like him.

As an aside, I wonder if he bought the house to live in or as an investment that he’ll rent?
I’m doing research on house prices for my phd thesis. Average gross rental yields in Australia are 3.8%, which means that his $70m house should cost $2.66m per year to rent. However most high-end property rents for much less.
This indicates that buyers of high-end property place a premium on ownership and the benefits of not having a landlord. They also hope for high capital gains to make up for low rental yields.

@Cas: Ah, why so sour. Maybe he gave a wannabe friend a mock Christmas present.

No so much sour as just reflecting on what’s been known of his public and private life over the last 5 years… it doesn’t seem to have gone very well for him, apart from the money. The older we get the more we discover that the only things we really want are the things that money can’t buy…

Cas

hes got a point , his wife left him , everyone basically hates him because he is a sell out.

Ah, I know nothing of his personal life, as it’s none of my business.

And his dad committed suicide ISTR.

All in all… I wouldn’t want to be Markus.

Cas

Indeed, but the intention of this thread wasn’t to discuss personal items but just to show that it’s possible to go from java-gaming.org to buying a 50 million euro house for the ones that are aspiring for such things.

Mike

Only massive dorks. I bet the other folks that made a mint out of the deal rather than Markus poison pilling it don’t hate him. Not in the slightest.

Well this topic went to shit fast.

I would sell out for a billion bucks, security for me and my family. If you wouldn’t then enjoy your cardboard box.

If he wants to go on the way he is now, so be it. Like modern day “celebrities” he will forgotten before he even cocks it.

Shit happens.

It is also possible to win the lottery… just not very likely, either

Cas

All of these terrible things can happen to anyone, regardless of one’s financial status.

Well, the second point is way easier with money…

Amazing house. Wonder what he plans on doing with it.

Live there I imagine.

Edit: I just realized I spelled my own handle wrong…

I’m happy for the guy, honestly. No bad blood here, though I genuinely wonder about the candy room…

What happens when the candy runs out? Who does he call to refill it. These are the questions we need to know. Also, I wonder how many monitors he has now.

In all fairness, good on him.

Yeah, except for the unfortunate changes that have happened in his life, he seems to have put himself in a situation where he can do exactly what he as stated he wants to do; just be a guy on the internet. He has the money and knowledge of his own success to keep him content in whatever endeavors he chooses to make.

Good for him.
