Making side money from adfly links.

I was wondering if it would be allowed to use something (Like Adfly) to link to external hyper-links.
So (In a way), you can get paid a bit for answering forum questions.

An average forum post has around, lets say 600 views.
And maybe 100 of them are lurkers, and didn’t click on the link.
Adfly also gives you 0.0015 for every view.

Lets also imply that an average Jo puts out 8 posts a day.
Also that it might take one week to reach around 1000 views per post.

So that’s 1.5$ a week, for one post, and 12$ for the average Jo, and around 360 a month (30 days) (if you keep posting regularly)

So 4320 a year, for a very frequent poster.

For the tl;dr’d people.
Basically I want to use adfly to reference to external links. Make about 1.5$ a week (Minimum).

I wouldn’t advise using adfly links around here, you should be answering questions because you want to help. If you’re really that desperate for money just use a bot.

i wouldn’t, but my reasoning is:

  1. I don’t want to look like I’m only answering people for selfish reasons
    …and
  2. if we all used Adfly, people might start thinking java-gaming is hardcoded to autolink all hyperlinks behind adfly, and thus make java-gaming look like one of those “in for the money” selfish forums.

Both reason are very harmful to your (and java-gaming’s) rep. :confused:

I absolutely hate it whenever I see one of those links anywhere. If it were allowed on this forum I probably wouldn’t come back.

I would agree to this only if one had a project link to download a FtP MMORPG that he quit his dayjob to work on full time. And he’s a college student. A poor one.

And the game has to be good, as well.

Not allowed. Mostly because it’s prone to result in dubious behavior.

Why monetize everything? I kinda like when people help each other without being paid. Its part of being nice :wink:

adf.ly is blocked in India. Though there are ways to use it still, I hate those links.

Also you are making some strange assumptions.
You are talking about views and clicks, i think you only mean clicks.

At websites with relevant content / adds the ctr (click trough rate) is like 0.01%, but with time passsing, users get more and more “add blind” making it more like 0.001%.
On a forum, the ctr would be the lowest possible on post adds.
So this will earn you around 1 or 2 clicks every post IF you are lucky.
Is it really worth the garbage?
