Now this is something I think everybody thinks of when they make a decent game: Can I make money off this? How? This is the question I am asking of course. Is there a website or a place I can submit a game to make a profit from it? I have done some research and have figured out that most websites accept only flash games but there must be a way to make money off a Java developed game, correct? Thanks for any help

Just because its Java doesn’t mean you can’t sell it. Runescape and Minecraft are good examples.
But, cutting to the chase, all games have to start somewhere. Post it somewhere, like here or Tigsrc. If people like it, they can spread the word. If you get a lot of traffic in a little amount of time, maybe its time to sell
Ah that’s interesting I had forgotten that Runescape was developed in Java! Haven’t looked at that game for years ;). But thanks for the advice, I’ll check out the other website and maybe post something here once I get a good idea going.
Best way to sell Java games is steam. Submit on Greenlight and if you get enough votes you’ll get a ton of exposure, for a relatively low cost (i hear).
Yes I have heard about Steam from all my friends, but I always thought that was for the professional and high level game developers?
Its not all about the ideas. Most of the time, ideas are very easy to come up with, and execution is what really matters. That’s a global “rule” i think, but there are a few exceptions.
Of course thinking is easier than doing. ENORMOUS SIGH
The best way to make money off something is to sell it. :o
The best way to sell it is to make people want to buy it. :o
To make people want to buy it they have to A) Know it exists, B) Want it, C) Afford it, and D) Be able to buy it.
A) Can be done anywhere. The effectiveness depends on where. Steam is good.
B) Is the hard part. This is part of programming.
C) Is simple. If you don’t go crazy, then it will be fine.
D) Is technical. You either need a portal (Steam, Desura etc.) or to do a lot of web & database programming etc.
Yes I checked out GreenLight just now, and jeez $100! But hey, who knows. Time to get started with learning libgdx
And before doing any of this, you have to program the game. xD
The $100 is a one time fee to stop discourage trolls and idiots spamming the system.
You can put up as many games as you like after you pay.
Yes, 100 dollars is actually quite reasonable.
Alright, $100 for the ability to submit unlimited games is pretty reasonable I agree
No issue with Java, you can publish a game nomatter how it was made. You can start anywhere! Heck, Minecraft was first introduced here, and now it has over 10 million copies sold. You can do anything, as long as you know what you are doing.
But it didn’t rise in popularity until Notch took it to TIGSource.
Well, yeah, this forum is more game developer friendly, so you’ll mostly get feedback and that kind of stuff. Tigsource is filled with everything gamers stuff. That way you’ll get a LOT of feedback, popularity, and community.
And if I remember right, Valve does not take any of that $100, I believe it goes straight to charity (Atleast what I heard)
