Mac market

Are there any numbers on the Mac market for games?

There are several top-end PC games which have been ported to the Mac - how do they sell/run on the Mac? Any postmortem articles from the porting crews/studios/… ?

Now to the Java relation of the question: a side effect of using Java for a game will be you get a Mac version for free, or at least the porting to Mac will be much simpler. If you can quote numbers you can judge it’s worth the effort (of using Java) because commercial games sell so well on Mac, for example Jedi-Knights-II sold M times on Mac.

What number is M ?

(Just FYI, >50% of my sales are now to Mac users!)

Thanks for that info.

Mr. Hook has been impressed too by the Mac users buying and testing his games, in an interview posted here in the thread “Brian Hook on indie games business etc” (http://www.java-gaming.org/cgi-bin/JGNetForums/YaBB.cgi?board=general;action=display;num=1072748701)

PomPom also make about 50% of their sales to Macophiles.

Cas,

Where are you advertising? Does this mean that sales improved when the Mac version became available, or have PC/Linux sales dropped off and the difference is not so big?

Have you listed here: http://guide.apple.com/submit/
?

Yes, it’s been submitted, but the Mac world is completely alien to me so who knows what has become of it… Actually right now Mac sales are completely outnumbering my PC sales (and the Linux sales were a bit of a joke to be honest - I wouldn’t be bothering with Linux at all if Elias weren’t doing the LWJGL bit for me).

Which reminds me… are you able to do a CVS build of the lwjgl.dylib for me in the very near future? I’ve got an update for AF which I can’t release on Mac because I can’t build the LWJGL :frowning:

I have been fighting with SourceForge CVS… my attempts to check out hang forever.

Give me an email address to send a zip to then.

The main places for macintosh distribution are:

Apple’s download site (linked above)
http://versiontracker.com

http://macnn.com

There are more than that, but those are the biggest ones.
