"I’m looking for a Mac coder who is interested in porting the extremely lightweight JTablet (Graphics Tablet plugin for Java) to Mac and Unix. (JTablet is featured on this site.)
The project is open source freeware and the code is designed to be easily cross-platform. You can download the SDK and full c++/Java source code (there’s not much to it!) on the sketchstudio website.
The library uses JNI to let Java access native code, and for Windows is designed with an installer that copies the java .jar to your JRE/JDK extensions folder.
In addition to the dll itself (native code), I would need a straight-forward installer (and uninstaller) that should, if possible, be hands-free (that is, you should be able to go through the installer, and then any version of Java, standalone and applets, have access to use it—that is, it should install as a Java extension). But I suppose the installer does not need to be made by the same person as the library itself.
Information on accessing tablet information can be found on Wacom’s website. I’m not sure if this is specific to Wacom (it isn’t for the Windows section), but for the most part Wacom is the preferred brand as far as compatibility is concerned.
Last of all, I am more interested in a Mac port (since mac users tend to be more graphical oriented), but it would also nice to have a *nix port. Entheh started one a while back, but it is far from complete (the incomplete source code he wrote is included in the SDK for reference). There is also a similar plugin to JTablet (though I have not tried it or heard of it being used), called JWacom for linux only which could be used as a reference for a JTablet linux port. For the *nix port, I would also like some kind of installer or ‘painless’ setup, although I suppose it’s less crucial. There’s no trouble with a source release on the *nix versoin, if compiling is easy enough.
So if you’re interested in this project, either for Mac or Linux, please post here, or send me an email/private message.
Thanks,
Marcello"
