lwjgl on osx/java7

Right, so I’ve considering switching my tower defense game from pure java2d to lwjgl, in the hopes that I’ll be able to render my shizzle faster. But as far as I know, then lwjgl isn’t yet working on osx with java7, so does anyone know when it’ll be working?

I’d hate to have to switch to java 6 just to port my attempt at a tower defense game. ^^

Cheers!

the LWJGL team seems to be actively working on the issue :

You can’t even use Java 7 on a lot of Macs as Apple aren’t adding Java 7 to <10.7 and the Java 7 versions of Java available are for >10.6. Essentially, I’m fucked with Java 6.

Cheers D:

Just upgrade to 10.7, problem solved. It has a lot of nice features over 10.6. And it’s like $30 should be affordable for most people.

There’s no reason to waddle in the past and miss out on Java 7! :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, did you talk about apple?

Yeah, that’s a real useful and helpful comment. Thanks for taking your time with such a constructive comment. Really, it’s so useful.

Naah… sorry for not being an apple-fan, but I really hate it how they want to have money for everything. This is actually okey, but why so much? Anyways, I shouldn’t bother.

Probably I shouldn’t do that, but I hope to open the eyes of others.

I probably agree with where you’re coming from, but the best way to open the eyes of others is not usually to poke your fingers in them!

I’m sorry, what?

Apple want so much for what now? Their OS newest OS is HALF the price of Windows 8.

The newest iPhone cost the same or less than an Android phone. (I looked up galaxy S3, for $899, iPhone 5, $399)

I’ll give you that the hardware you buy from Apple, e.g. a mbp is expensive. But to be honest, then my mbp has been a far better bargain when it comes to quality vs price, than any of my previous laptops. Which btw. cost exactly the same as I paid for my mbp.

But hey, sure, let’s do like they did in the old days with racism. Let’s hate something we don’t know, because we don’t know it. Nothing’s changed, after all.

(Oh, and I’ve run the following OS’s: win 95, ME, 2000, XP, 7 (Yes, skipped Vista), Debian, kubuntu, ubuntu, freebsd and osx, and my favorite os is osx, it’s far more polished than any of the others. And about as restrictive as Debian…)

Cheers.

Vista sucks anyway. ;D Your not missing out on a thing. ;D

Cannot resist to opportunity and derailment

Many companies suck, just like microsoft.
But Apple is like a weird cult where the fans gladly pay premium for a brand-name. It’s like brand clothing - since there is similar quality without the brand for waay cheaper.
in Apple’s case, I mean they dont even have really powerful machines and if they are super expensive, considering that a pc that plays everything in the world costs like ~$500

I would never buy a Mac with my own money; this one I’m using now I got from school.

mussst reesist to sttaaa…rt flaa…ming

Can’t stand the things, meself. I find them unusably shit in many ways. I’m forced to own one just to test games on.

The iPad now… that’s a great bit of kit. Unlike the Nexus 7, it has survived my 2 year old.

Cas

Oh, no I’m not talking about Windows :stuck_out_tongue:

Somehow I don’t get, why this is related to racism… Also, I DO know it.

Mine: Windows 95, 97, 2000, XP (currently installed), 7.
kubuntu, suse, archlinux (currently running), ubuntu.
Android, iOS, osx.

It’s true. OSX is magic somehow. But the price is not, what I want to pay for it.
If I want to update to a newer version in linux, I press “F12” (having yakuake installed), then writing “sudo pacman -Syu”, hitting ENTER/RETURN then writing in my password hitting ENTER again, and then 2 times ENTER (depends), and I’m finished.
Which cost me 0€ in the end. (exept for internet and electricity, but srsly…)

Oh and you say price vs quality?
Archlinux / Ubuntu / Kubuntu / many others:
price vs quality = +Infinity.
OSX:
price vs quality = {+ or - whatever | whatever < +Infinity}

EDIT: But yeah, I’m pretty sure this will lead to nowhere. I think I’ll stop here now
EDIT2: Forgot fedora…

Im not sure where people find an Galaxy S3 for 899 bucks. I paid 498 € back then…

Anyway, why don’t you want to go with Java6? Do you even use any Java7 specific feature? Consider that a lot people still have Java6. So all your ne technology is nothing if you don’t have people who are able to play your game  Performance-wise there will be probably no difference.

And don’t say: “Just upgrade the system”. That sounds like you think the end user has to be up to date with you. I can assure you that this will never be the case. Or do you think every computer player has OpenGL 4.0? Right. No. So YOU as developer have to make it work for all

Edit:
Oh on Amazon I pay 800 € for an Iphone, maybe you mixed that?

Apple aren’t going to add Java 7 to anything, they abandoned their Java implementation. Complain to Oracle that they won’t support older versions (well, “older”, Snow Leopard is like 2.5 years old).

That is quite clearly an unsubsidized phone vs one with a contract. Unlocked iPhone 5’s are selling for a grand.

They are so clearly not worth that amount of money though.

Cas

I just got a S3 with my current contract for 10Eur extra per month~ for 2 years, and thats it

About OSX, I do have to say I would rather use Windows 8 than OSX and I think Windows 8 is worse than tuberculosis.

I had to present some flash shit I had to make for a design course a year ago and I completely embarrassed myself. I couldn’t even copy my stuff from the thumbdrive to the pc
CTRL C didnt work and rightclick, the context didn’t have any COPY entry
It was like sitting in a restaurant with no hands.
