LWJGL GUI options?

i’m looking for a good solution for gui to go with lwjgl games. writing one is not that hard but is time consuming and one would rather spend time on the game than on writing gui. something light not too hard to fit into an existing game would be nice.

i’ve had a look at BUI and jMEDesktop, but they rely on jME and i am not using that atm and would rather avoid too much extra libraries. Also had a look at sphgetti but its the code isn’t up to date with the latest lwjgl and no example or anything with that, i fiddled around with it for a bit but couldn’t work out how it works. had a look at http://home.halden.net/tombr/gui/gui.html too but again doesn’t work with current lwjgl.

any idea’s on a good solutions?

Hi!

I think FengGUI is something for you. You can find it at: http://fenggui.dev.java.net. We havent officially released it yet, but it is stable enough to give it a serious try. FengGUI is intended to be small, simple and highly customizable as an alternative to the currently developed JOGL-Swing bridge. In addition, we incorporate some new concepts that are not included in the Swing/AWT colossus.

The available alphas contain many examples and tests so that you can play around with it. Ley me know if you miss something. Early development feedback is most welcome

Regarding your concern of too many extra libraries, FengGUI comes in only two jars, completely independent from any game middleware. You can use it right away without having to move images or other resources in the right place. However, if you want to use FengGUIs theme loader, you need ANTLR which is included in the bundle-download (one lonely jar).

btw, FengGUI has a JOGL rendering peer additionally to the LWJGL peer, which makes it interesting for JOGL people as well.

sounds good, i’ll have a look into it
