Ludum Dare 35: April 15th to 18th -- THEME IS SHAPESHIFT --

THEME IS SHAPESHIFT

What is it?

Ludum Dare (LD) (from Latin “to give a game”, formerly Ludum Dare 48 (LD48), also referenced as LDJAM) is an accelerated video game development competition. It was founded by Geoff Howland and was first held in April 2002. Participants are required to create a video game that fits within a given theme in two days. A unique feature of this competition is that participants often release a time-lapse video of the development of their game.

From wiki

LD is starting today, who’s participating?

I’m probably gonna be doing it, depending on the theme.
I’ll be using Unity in this competition for the first time, or LibGDX.

Heyyo!

I’m likely going to be joining in. Been preparing some non-gameplay backend stuff all day today (setting up some asset managers, some screens and stuff.)

I might do it if i get the time. The time difference doesn’t help either.

The theme is shapeshifting.

I was going to do this one… then well life happened.

I’m doing this time!, and focused on graphics, animations and some basic game mechanics today:

Other than that, I explored entity component systems for the first time in this game (been reading on them for a few weeks, but this is the implementation). I’m pretty sure that I will be adding at least 20 levels in the game.

Also, this is developed for both desktop and html5 using SilenceEngine’s new GWT backend.

Yea i was going to go html5 for this dare. Maybe next time. Or the NZ game jam.

only just. Did a lot better this time, also used JBullet instead of fiddling around with the physics myself.

Not Java, but I have nowhere else to post, I hope that’s fine :stuck_out_tongue:

I quite liked that little game! Very impressive that you can build it in that time. A few small points:

  • What does shift do? I didn’t see that mentioned in the explanation
  • Escape didn’t stop the game for me (Win 10, chrome).
  • I couldn’t get up to the 4th platform (but then I’m useless at these things)
  • The player blob would look better without a completely flat bottom
  • having little birds flying horizontally across screen that damage you would be good
