Ludum Dare 31: "Entire Game on One Screen"

I dont exactly understand what you are even supposed to do there. Like one level? I mean if you think about it every game is on one screen haha.

BTW I’m streaming Mr. CodeIt (JayManHall) here!

pacman, digdug, milipede, frogger, space invaders, tetris, missile command, etc. plenty of room to take one of those concepts and expand on it

Haha, every single time, no matter what the theme is, people complain.

I took the theme to mean NO SCROLLING. Games like Mario (or, uh, most games) where you scroll past the original screen would be out.

I’m still brainstorming though.

I wonder how many people are going to make snowman games anyway?

Making a game without scrolling is not creative or interesting. It’s just some stupid restriction.

That’s sorta the point. Think about how you’d make those restrictions interesting.

How? No idea.

Alternatively, you could take “entire” as its other meaning: an uncastrated male horse.

And just make a horse game.

be a little bit liberal with the interpretation.

e.g. perhaps a top down vertical shooter that takes place on an asian-style reed screen. So you can still scroll as the game is taking place “on One Screen” :stuck_out_tongue:

So far my game consists of a window which the user can move around their screen. If they move it off the screen (onto another monitor, for example) the game crashes.

So far, I got this

Also, be sure to check in my YouTube, I’m doing some LiveStreams!!

Here’s an image from a few hours ago, the game is a bit different now:

Just got done implementing guns, about to take a dorito break to celebrate.

Tetris didn’t have scrolling. It still sold incredibly well and had (still has to some extent) a wide fanbase. Whether or not it was creative or interesting is up for debate, but the point still stands.

24 hours to go.

So far I have a player which shoots explosive arrows and wolves that eat the player.

This was my first Ludum Dare ever and I just finished it.

Well, my game didn’t turn out to be very creative (in fact, it’s pretty much the same as my previous 2 entries) but I like the amount of polish I’ve been able to put into such a simple game. Hopefully I won’t be making a top-down shooter next time :stuck_out_tongue:

Only a few hours away from finishing this up.

Now starts the fun time of finding all those cool games that have been made… But first of all I need a batch of sleep

Nice game, but the ludumdare page you linked points to Jev’s Gungeon.

Thanks…

Definitely a sign that I needed that sleep

Yes its another shmup  However I only realized that LD was on halfway through the weekend, so I enlisted some help from some friends and we quickly put something together within 24 hours in time for the Jam submission. All of us are pleased with what we presented though, and will see what we can do within 72 hours next time
