Ludum Dare 27

10 Seconds it is.

It’s not too bad…

I’m off to think of a good idea that I can implement in <12 hours. (I don’t have much time)

It took a lot more than 10 seconds to load the final voting scores.

Stupid people spamming F5.

Hm, I’ll probably join the Jam instead of the Compo as this is my first LD and I’m reappropriating some code from my existing game project.

Just make it public and then it’s fine for the Compo. (post on LD website with link)

In case anyone’s having trouble, I stole an ‘idea’. (I’m not using it, I have my own idea ;))

Seconds, as well as being a unit of time, are also a unit of length.

EDIT: It’s not really an idea, just a pointer.

since when? O_O

They’re also a participant in a duel or competitive sport like boxing.

Latitude/Longitude: Measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds. Although then you have to define the radius of the said sphere.

Well, also because of the busy weekend, the extra 24 hours to finish the game will come in handy.

btw, I just saw a fascinating idea: Having a 10-second lag between your input and what happens on the screen :stuck_out_tongue:

10 Seconds is a long time when playing a game.

Yeah, but if someone is able to craft a game concept and mechanic that utilizes that idea well, it could be a very good game that could place really high.

My creative interpretation of the theme was to have 11 players. One personae would get first and everyone else would automatically tie for second place. Hence, 10 seconds. I’m just pulling at strings though trying to make mine unique. I don’t even have any idea how 10 people could tie for second. ;D

I’ll share my idea.

You have 10 seconds to do the level. The whole level. It is a big level.
Once that 10 seconds is up, you have to try again.

However, as you play again and again, you will explore more of the level, maybe opening shortcuts etc.
There will also be powers along the way (flight, sprinting etc.)

These things carry over when you restart the level.
The aim is to get further each time (with 10 seconds), in order to be able to get even further. Eventually, you will be able to get to the end.

I’ve got the basic game working (with white squares ;)), the player can move, and the world is loaded from a png.

Not very creative, but hopefully fun.

Basically, I have a really long level, and you have to get to each checkpoint in time.

If you don’t reach a checkpoint in five seconds,
well,
you die.

You have 3 lives, and if you don’t ever get one checkpoint in those lives, you die.

Every 5 or so checkpoints you can gain another life, though.

There, ideas for all!

I’m building one of those super basic get to the end in ten seconds games that will probably involve a few power-ups in an effort to make the game a bit fun.

Day 2 (for me).

I’ve got ~8 hours left.

Luckily it won’t take too long to implement all the powers.
I’m just worried about level design…

I’ll get a screenshot when it starts looking nicer.

I’m experimenting with new pixel art techniques.

I chose to stick with the style I’m used to with the limited time I have, so it will look similar to Guardian sprites, but it is double the resolution.

Also, I’m drawing lighting onto the sprite:

Done!

Good luck everyone else for the more time they have.

I guess you could say We’re making some progress…
