Lucky's Puzzle Carnival Release Candidate 1

At long last, I’ve posted a release candidate for Lucky’s Puzzle Carnival. It’s available from the test page at http://www.orbitalcows.com/lpc/lpctest.php .

I just want to make sure people can get it to run before I start selling the game. If you have integrated graphics, the game most likely won’t work well. I set the video card requirement at “32 MB video card”, though the only integrated graphics I’ve tested on were Intel GMA graphics (the worst integrated graphics anywhere).

It’s available for both Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS X 10.4+. The Mac version should work on Linux (see readme.txt), but I haven’t tested it personally.

In particular, I was hoping someone could test it on Windows Vista and/or Mac OS X 10.5. I have access to neither of these operating systems right now. I have tested it on Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.4.

Release Candidate 2 has been posted. There were some bug fixes, and a number of minor issues have been addressed. Some of these minor issues included non-intuitive interface decisions that made it seem like the game was broken.

I still would appreciate someone with Windows Vista and/or Mac OS X 10.5 downloading the game just to verify that it works.

At least one Linux user has problems with the game not being able to find the sound card, though the game isn’t really being developed for Linux.

I probably should have mentioned at some point that the game requires a 32 MB video card. That’s the only requirement that seems to be preventing people from playing the game. Integrated graphics don’t seem able to handle Lucky’s Puzzle Carnival, despite the fact that it’s only a 2d game. I assume that the rather liberal use of animation is what’s causing the problem.

Players with integrated graphics can still play the game, but they should play in 640x480 with 16-bit color in full-screen mode. Even so, it won’t exactly be blazing fast.
