Looking For Work

I’m trying to tap all my resources here, because another prospective job fell through (this time they downsized before I even finished interviewing), and I’m getting really frustrated. I know I’ve got the skills and I’m in the right location, I just don’t know anybody so I can only apply via job sites and the like. I hear back from maybe 10% of all the places I apply to, and when I’m spending an hour each writing cover letters and researching the company it can be frustrating.

So… anyone in the Bay Area know of work, or does anyone have any general advice for me? I’ve got no professional experience because I just graduated college in May. Getting an internship isn’t really an option for me unless I can afford to live from the pay.

Taadaaaa! My resume: http://www.otcsw.com/resume.php

Also, I already applied to Three Rings, so don’t mention them, because I know they made a post here. :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you had a look at gamasutra.com? They have a lot of jobs and you can post your searchable resume on their site too.

Otherwise you could fall back on being a waiter so that you can pay some bills and use the evenings to work on your games  .

You could try finding a headhunter that deals with the companies you are interested in. They are kind of like a real estate agent that finds you interviews instead of houses. Usually you have to pay for their services but not always.

Yup, I’ve used it a lot. Most game development companies want at least 2 years of experience (at least the ones that post there), but actually as of now Craig’s List is being by far the most useful tool. I’ve gotten responses almost immediately from everyone I apply to using Craig’s List, rather than the frustrating lack of response you get from most job sites.

I’m sure I’ll be fine, it’s just hard living off savings. But yeah, I’ll wait tables if things get too tight.
