why not the blue logo with the red nose ? Everything the same color looks very dull , specially the blue one . The blue one looks like you took the red one and clicked “Invert colors” in Ms Paint
There’s no end to the variations that can be produced. “Red nose”, “Black nose”, “Smaller duke”, “Different font”. etc. I think I’ll leave the drafts at their current state until it’s decided we will use this, otherwise it’s just going to be confusing to have 100 suggestions of the essentially same logo.
I think my drafts work nicely in print, t-shirts, etc. However, they are cartoonish, so I’m not sure if it fits for the look n’ feel of these forums. Maybe drop shadow works best 
The one with the text underneath might look better but to not take up too much space on the height when loading the page while still keeping the logo at a decent size this one will be better.
Maybe make the nose red but, as Appel said, there is no need to start discussing details before many people had their say. What about a poll?

Nice work! I have a mild preference for the gradients, though, in the original sketch. I understand this is a stylization. I just like gradients. (My contribution to the upcoming hundred suggestions.)
This family of logos is the best I’ve seen so far. It captures the Java-ey feel and gamingness of this site. Maybe if we used the blue and orange of the old logo it would be even better (instead of the pure red).
I love the logos on this page. However, please make sure that you use JGO and not JavaGaming in the title. Oracle is signing the domain backover to me but, because we are no longer an Oracle/Sun site, we can’t use JavaGaming in the masthead. Which, in my opinion, is better as we get to brand “JGO” for us in this community. W00T!

Mine too. The lack of highlight makes it more HAL 9000 eye and less clown’s nose - so a big win.
