[LibGDX] Polygon - simple match 3 puzzle game

Hi,

I would like to share with you my 2nd LibGDX game, Polygon. You fill up empty space with blocks. When you have more than 4 matching blocks, the blocks will collapse and clearing up the space. Simple enough, right?

I could really use some feedback on, game mechanic, level difficulty, etc. I’m planning to add more features into the game. Thank you.

I would honestly consider a name change, its kind of a generic name and doesn’t describe your game at all! A name is supposed to hook the potential player and tell them a little about the game so they want to try it. Polygon just reminds me of geometry class. Not the best memories

Just tried it - it’s nicely polished - good job!

I don’t know if I played the same version as in the screenies above though. The one I played had a tutorial screen saying “draw any tetromino block”, not “swipe to fill blocks”. If it’s the same game neither really makes sense - I would say “put down squares 4 at a time”.

Also it’s a match 4 game, not match 3, or am I being too picky there?!

As for gameplay it’s kind of fun, and I say that as someone who enjoys games like Folt. A couple of things - firstly the turn timer - is that really necessary? IMO it’s a bad idea - in a turn-based puzzle game it’s really nice to sit back and think things over.

Secondly I thought it was a bit awkward when you get to the situation on the board when there’s quite a lot of free area left but no areas of 4 contiguous spaces (or only 4 in a T shape which is not allowed), and you have to just sit and wait for the turn timer to count down. It could detect that straight away and tell you. Alternatively did you try it to see how it played when it was allowed to place less than 4 squares in places like that?

Or remove the whole requirement to put down 4 at a time and allow the player to place as many connected squares as they like, with incremental score bonus the more you put down in one swipe…

Overall I think it has a lot of potential!

Oh yes and the game name - I agree with the previous reply that it seems totally irrelevant. Also a waste of a good name - you may regret it when your next game is all about polygons
