Pixel format is this:
PixelFormat pf = new PixelFormat(32, 8, 16, 1,0);
Did you say no when asked if it should copy files? That part creates the directory - otherwise if you create a kumari directory in your home it should work.
Ya, there is something weird causing the process to remain - probably something minor - the whole webstart version of this is really just a hack around things to test OS compatibility of the game.
Glad you thought the game was good

Think for a minute how spoiled we are that we are ONLY dealing with install and hardware compatability issues and somehow that seems like “not enough corss-platform.”
Fact of the matter is we used to have these kidsn of problems just trying to get a game to run over a reasonable number of PCs… this wasn’t even the START of our porting issues…
Thanks Jeff - I’ll have that fixed in a jiffy
Ok, FMOD should be found now - I also set the alpha bits for the PixelFormat to 0, hopefully that helps the other Linux users:
Kumari Kandum - WebStart (the it’s gonna work damn it! - version)
PS: It should still work for Windows and Mac (I hope).
Now it doesn’t even launch:

Bugger!! Try it again - only the nfmod-natives-linux.jar (280K) should have to download.
Better, but still doesn’t work. Now I get a black screen for a blink.

Ok - I’ll have to rename one of the files then - give me 5 mins
OK - Give it another try…

Thanks for your patience

Maybe you need to clear your cache? I don’t know. The files are in the jar, I don’t know why it’s not finding them
Can you have a look in this directory and tell me what’s there:
for Jeff:
/home/jeffpk/.java/deployment/cache/javaws/http/Dvorax.thebodclan.com/P80/DMwebstart/RNnfmod-natives-linux.jar/
for arne:
/home/arne/.java/deployment/cache/javaws/http/Dvorax.thebodclan.com/P80/DMwebstart/RNnfmod-natives-linux.jar/
libfmod-3.74.so libNativeFmodDyn.so libNativeFmod.so
Is it possible that the clasloader doesnt knwo where to find them? (Im not a webstart guru by any means)
cleared webstart and trying again…
Edit: Nope, same result
Well - giving up for now - I’ll try making a special loader for Linux for the next round - at least it works on Mac and Windows.
Jeff: Yeah, I know. Not trying to get into a cross-platform war, just find it kind of funny (in a cynical kind of way) that even for java (the cross-platform poster-child) such woes can come up. I DO still remember the good old days…
Anyway, what I’m really posting about is the impressions of my wife, the Zuma-empress had of the game.
She got it immediately, and she made happy-sounds while playing it at first. That didn’t last, though. She started to complain that the game made her seasick pretty soon, and she couldn’t get the balls to hit anything far away. She had to quit after a short while (about 50k points in), because she said she got queasy.
When asked what was wrong with it she said the viewpoint-movement was too much, too quick, and aiming was too hard. It lacked the aspect she liked about zuma, which is that the “shooter” stays put in the middle of the screen and the aim is moved. I didn’t bring up with her that the shooter stays put in Kumari as well.
All in all she was not happy about the experience. When asked what would improve the game she said something had to be done about the movement. She felt she was being slammed around.
Sorry to give bad feedback, but I think any feedback is valuable.
This is great feedback - dont’t feel bad at all.
I am going to take it all into consideration and see what can be done. I don’t want anyone feeling sea sick after playing it
Questions for you - Do you have a flat panel monitor? What Mhz is your monitor running at? Did you disable vsync? Did you try changing the mouse sensitivity (in options)?
