Keyboard Focus and Webstart

I had a search but I couldn’t find the post I remember where someone mentioned problems with webstart and keyboard focus in LWJGL.

I thought it was only to do with the Mac but I’m now finding that I get keyboard focus problems if I go straight into fullscreen mode with webstart on Windows.

Its windows only atm :frowning: and beware, it puts you into fullscreen mode and you’ll have to alt-tab to get focus into the main app before you have anyway of quitting!

hmm - works perfect under Windows XP SP2…
Whats you’re OS? - what version of LWJGL ?

I had a problem with this with one of my own webstarts, it was caused by webstart popping up a dialog box asking if I would like the app integrated into my desktop, unfortunately webstart decides to ask this question after the app has run, so that’s why you have to alt-tab to gain focus away from the dialog box.

It’s easily turned off.

Might be something else but it sounds very similar.

Windows XP SP2 (Home Edition?).

I’ve run this webstart quite a few times so the dialog isn’t popping up.

LWJGL Build - CVS build.

But it worked ok for you?

Yeah, I’d plump for that one as well. You open a fullscreen window, then JWS opens a dialogue behind it and switches focus to it. If you alt-tab it’ll probably still not be displayed, so try alt-tabbing and hitting ESC and see whether that fixes it.

The proper solution is that every single one of your clients needs to run JWS directly, click File->Preferences, select the Shortcuts tab, select “Never integrate java(sic) applications into the desktop”, Okay the dialogue and try again.

If they don’t have a JWS icon on their desktop, you’ll need to direct them to the JRE folder (either guess or check the registry), go into the javaws directory and run javaws.exe.

When I alt-tab I can just see that the JWS application has focus. It hasn’t brought up any dialogs.

This problem also seems to be intermitent. JWS 1.4.2_03. Most annoying. Seems to be on the first download of something new that it breaks. But then before I had it happening everytime…
