Jumproom

Hey all, been working on this for a while but the day job keeps dragging me away (from java gaming in general). It’s a arcade twitch one button game. I’m having a lot of trouble staying the distance so hoping that some feedback here might get me back in the swing of things.

Written with LibGDX.

First chapter and hidden levels are mostly done, second chapter is incoming.

Feedback richly appreciated.

Cheers,

Kev

Wow, really well done, I only made it to like lvl 7 when I encountered the other mushrooms and then I rage quit.

Did not really see any bugs, the only thing I would suggest is allowing us to kill the other mushrooms like in Mario by jumping on their heads.

I played until level 7 too and the game feels really nice. The only thing I was missing is the music (and some sound effects) because for small and simple games like this a little bit of background music can really set the mood. Good job Kev.

You can turn the music and sfx on in the level select screen.

Thanks for checking it out!

Getting there with chapter 2 now.

Cheers

Kev

Played all of the main levels and found 2 warp levels, good game.

Though I can just jump on spikes if I just spam click making a lot of levels a lot easier. Good luck with further development.

Okay, first, reeeally like the graphics. They’re so well done and fit perfectly! I’ve noticed the background is rather static and boring however, simply making the clouds move with some paralax would really add some sense of dimension to the game.

I completed all levels and one warp level with three stars except for level 8 and had tons of fun! I’m not sure it’s possible to get the second star in level 8 without falling off the map unless you move it down a block. Also, there’s a two second delay before the restart and main menu options appear when you fall down the map which quickly gets annoying. I could also jump across spikes by repeatedly clicking as Bearded Cow mentioned.

How many warp levels are there? I only found one and cannot find the rest.

Good game, nice job!

Thanks for the feedback!

There are two warp levels in the first chapter.

Just added background clouds and fixed the spiked thing. There’s an update coming shortly with those fixes and the chapter 2 levels.

Cheers,

Kev

For level 8 just jump into the hole but jump at the last possible point, you don’t actually have to go through the coin to collect it.

New update, 22 new levels (Chapter 2) and some bug fixed.

Feedback appreciated as always.

Fun game ! Has nice and interesting mechanics. But also make some keybindings for the “TAP” mousebutton. It’s kind of annoying to constantly grab the mouse.
PS: Also make it so that we can switch levels in the level menu with the arrow keys

Thanks for the feedback, will work full keyboard controls into the next update.

Cheers,

Kev

Another suggestion! Maybe you could make it so that I’m able to turn off / on the music without quitting the whole level by going to the main menu :stuck_out_tongue:

Mushroom just passes through the far right coin in level 1-13 without collecting it.

Knew I shouldn’t have fiddled with the hit detection without checking everything!

Thanks!

Kev

Hey Kev, cool game!
I played most of the first chapter and some of the second chapter and had a lot of fun.

Just some very small bugs/issues:

Ch.1, Lvl. 11: If one character dies, then the level continues, but you don’t have a way to beat it. Perhaps it should automatically restart?
Collision detection with coins and enemies seems a bit off. I can be inside of them and not pick them up / get hurt.
The sound for picking up coins doesn’t work in the second chapter.
The background seems incomplete. Picking up a coin removes the background, and some tiles don’t have a background, leaving a large hole.

Awesome music by the way!

Fixed and fixed and fixed. Updated with a new version.

Cheers,

Kev

That also added keyboard controls. Cursors for the most part, Escape to move out of menus and M to toggle music/sound.

Kev

It’s a fun concept and it plays really well, as one would expect from you
It’s like a concentrated mix of accessible one-button skill, and a puzzle element.

I played it on PC and used the keyboard, and found the level selection screen not obvious: It’s not clear when you have selected the newly unlocked level, and my first instinct was to use space to start a level (which didn’t work). When I found out that the Enter key works, it turned out that when I finished a level that the same level was selected instead of the next one.
But obviously this is meant for touch devices so probably not a big problem.

The arrows on the blocks that make you change direction are probably not clear enough. Maybe you should make it a bit more obvious; more contrast and maybe animate those blocks.

Maybe it’s a an idea to add a time element to it. The mechanics really lend themselves for that. Like an extra prize or something if you finished a level in the best possible time.

Erik! Dude!

Time limits are going to come is as a feature in a later chapter.

All other points, check, I’m on it.

Thanks for the feedback!

Kev

The time limit idea seems cool. Maybe you should also add difficulty! The harder, the faster the player and enemies move.
