Wow. We have just got approved for java.net! I think we probably should do a switcharoo. Maybe I shall wait a bit until I have a clear patch in my schedule before doing this. Work has been slow on the project lately becuase I have large Chrismas deadlines. I am hoping to get back into full swing after Christmas. It does look like I will be using JOODE for my PhD next year so I can assure everyone it will get some good long term development time from me.
Anyway… back to the hippocampus…
Hi, Im just curious how you will use JOODE/ODE in you PhD studies? Whats the research topic/area?
It will be used to develop a controllor for a metamorphic robot. My PhD is in Neuroinformatics so a proportion of the controllor will be neural based (SOM actually). I don’t wanna give the game away too much yet. Wait till I start cranking out the papers…
Cool, metamorphics! Anything related to Chirikjian?

Well, his algorithm is all about walking units over the surface of the whole to recombine. Its a great algorithm becuase its so generic, but my direction is all about internal recombination. I beleive that is a much more effecient way of doing things and scales better. My vision of metamorphic robots is huge configurations that actually use tools internally to acheive things, thus the surface of the robot is special case and everything needs to be geared towards internal reconfiguration. Its a different approach. I would bite my arm off to get the impact Chirikjian’s “Kinimatics…” paper got though. I need not worry too much about this yet. I do not start the PhD until next year.
