JOGL and Compiz in Ubuntu 9.04

Hi all!

I really want to run JOGL in Ubuntu 9.04 with Compiz enabled, but no luck so far.
I observed the following:

Compiz enabled (the default):
Unusable. CLCanvas workes somewhat, but if the window containing the canvas is resized or moved the screen is not “cleaned up” - leaving traces of previous content where the window used to be. Also a fair amount of flickering (from windows behind the frame) inside the canvas.

Compiz disabled:
GLCanvas works ok. (But slow.)

GLJPanel does not work at all (compiz or no compiz) and only shows old framebuffer jibberish.

The graphics chipset is Intel GMA950 on a HP NX7400 laptop and Open JDK 6.

I’m mainly interested in using GLCanvas, so if anyone have an idea how to get this working in compiz I’d be grateful.

Ideas???

Thanks,
Mikael

This is a known issue on ubuntu. Compiz does not play well with other 3d apps on some hardware. http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/2876/
