EgonOlsen, it was an April Fool’s joke, although I was ready to donate $102 for the blue duke
Riven missed out, I was totally ready to drop $899 on vault access.
Damnations, I still can throw money at JGO… :clue: You totally had me there!
My brain just doesn’t allow me to find april fool’s jokes funny… :clue:
Hahaha, well played.
On a slightly more serious note, you might consider opening up a Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/
LibGDX just did this to cover their server costs: http://www.patreon.com/libgdx
Patreon seems to be targeted at the creative fellows. I’m fairy sure that doesn’t include me. Besides, I don’t want money from the people that create the community. That’s just wrong, on so many levels (well, three). So instead I sell eye-time of guests. With a deal recently made, breaking even (covering all hosting costs since jgo-epoch) in 2 years is a real possibility. So put back those wallets, as I’m not havin’ it.
What is an ‘epoch?’
And here is the part where I cringe at Wes’ again!

a division of geologic time less than a period and greater than an age
It’s a point in time where you deem time to be zero.
It’s 923,034,528s since Riven epoch.
Whoa, you’re only 29!
I prefer the geology definition

I´m also quite impressed (but not surprised ofcourse) that our Overlord was born in one second.
Correct, I should have added nine months, but people wouldn’t have understood. :emo:
you know what might be a good idea? as we are a coding community maybe have a competition. It costs say £20 to enter , if you win you get free ad space and your money back all other money goes to JGO. ofcourse for it to work we would need some members however I think it adds a good dimension to normal donation . an insentive if you will , (if I could spell :D). so if we had 20 members compete then you woululd get £380 pounds (about $550).
So you’d have to pony up $33.50 to enter. The vast mjority of JGOers wouldn’t have that money laying around, the richer members probably don’t have the free time, or intent to join any contest. A request for donations would actually offer a better deal than this.
Yeah, but the people with enough skill to win can just put all their time and effort into making their own game in their own time and sell it without JGO’s adverttising help, and anyone who doesnt have the skill isnt going to get anywhere with free advertising anyway.
Also should be noted that JGO is a forum of developers/programmers, not the common gamers. Most people who visit here are not usually interested in finding new games. The demographic here is wrong for trying to market a completed game, at least on any large scale terms. I think anyway. :o
In fact, I think you’d get more traffic from being in the Featured/Showcase sections than you would being on the banner ads.

… for which you have to make a good game too, but without having to pay for it.
