JavaOne

Want to present a session about your game or application? It would be great to have more sessions by external (non-Sun) Java developers. What APIs did you use? What worked, what didn’t? What suggestions do you have for other developers?

Check out:
http://servlet.java.sun.com/javaone/sf2003/home/index.en.jsp

But time is running out: submit your abstract by Friday November 8th for review.

So the JavaOne sessions and BOFs are on the web site now (though there may be more in the pipeline). Here are the ones I could find related to Java games:

Desktop Games BOF, by Chet Haase (same Chet as above?) & Kenneth Russell of Sun
http://servlet.java.sun.com/javaone/sf2003/conf/bofs/display-1404.en.jsp

Developing Games with MIDP 2.0, by Mark Patel of Motorola
http://servlet.java.sun.com/javaone/sf2003/conf/sessions/display-1439.en.jsp

Multi-Player MIDP Game Design BOF, by David Price (me ;)) & Jyri Salomaa of Nokia Research Center
http://servlet.java.sun.com/javaone/sf2003/conf/bofs/display-1858.en.jsp

The following mentions ‘Network Gaming’ as one thing that will be covered:
End-to-End Architecture for Mobile Networks BOF, by Danny Coward, John Pampuch & Douglas Tait of Sun
http://servlet.java.sun.com/javaone/sf2003/conf/bofs/display-1993.en.jsp

The following will be relevant to those of you doing J2SE games:
Graphics Performance: Writing Optimized Client Applications, by Chet Haase (again), Josh Outwater & Scott Violet of Sun
http://servlet.java.sun.com/javaone/sf2003/conf/sessions/display-1440.en.jsp

Of course loads of other technology sessions and BOFs will be very relevant to each of us - I expect as usual to be so busy running to sessions and BOFs, I have to learn about the parties from other people’s reports afterwards…

David
