javagamedevelopment.net - Daily news etc

http://www.javagamedevelopment.net is a independent portal for java game development. Daily news, articles, tutorials, forums etc.

I just started the site so it’s missing some content, but I’ll add more over the next few days.

I’m working on a few beginner articles: “Making an Asteroids Clone” (rotating, and finding the slope etc), the second article is “Particle Engines for beginners”… Basicly how to make Particle explosions instead of horribly ugly bitmaps. I’ll include some old tech palette flames and fading too. They should be up shortly i hope

The idea with the site is to help beginners start game programming in java, and help them make better games. I’m so tired of crappy flash games

You can submit news, suggestions etc to: news@javagamedevelopment.net
anything java and game related goes…

Just one comment: I really don’t like the look and fell of the site. It’s hard to read with a resolution of 1280x1024. And I don’t like the colors but this is subjective. One question: are you trying to do like JGF?

Heya… I haven’t spent much thoughts about the design, I will sometime I guess. I’m spending all the time on content instaed. The design is pretty much just standard Mambo CMS thignie.

The site is not like JGF, I won’t host games, it’s mostly for developers. Daily java game development news etc, some articles and tutorials.

I’m sorry that you’ve missed the point of JGF (it’s not too clear at the moment - I’ve been focussing on getting the games working so e.g. the articles only exist on the old site at the moment): it’s as much for developers as for players.

Actually, the big secret is that it’s entirely for developers - it’s just that most developers want / need people playing their games and want / need people to believe in java and want / need everyone to have a JVM installed already (not MS JVM), and want / need to be able to convince their boss / their publisher / their colleagues that java is a good choice for games dev.

…which naturally leads to wanting/needing a showcase of the best that java can do + a central place for getting hold of all the good java games.

I’ve been hoping for ages to find someone who’d want to be a news-editor for JGF - full control over submitted news, choosing what to publish, finding news of their own, etc. ::slight_smile:

There’s a good stock already setup on JGF (old version) or in-progress (not yet published). It’s just waiting for the game/webstart stuff to be finished, and then we can get on with transferring and soliciting new articles…and/or waiting for me to nag the couple of people who volunteered to be article-editors and remind them to get on with getting new articles :).

(again, anyone who wants to write/source/edit articles is welcome to get in touch…)

Oh sweet, java game developement news

cool article on Scorched Earth, truly a classic game

Will.
