Well bloody done Larry. Grr.

Wow I would love to have access to that holy magic.
Looks like you could make some sweet as GUIs.
tbh, this should never have been the domain of Snorcle.
Similar to LWJGL, they should have focused on making the VM able to support javafx, via dynamicinvoke etc. and then let other people actually do the work.
Javafx was created to combat flash. They wanted to be able to do RIA, similar to flex and silverlight. Even silverlight is having a shitload of issues getting into the market at all. HTML5 has a much better position here.
It was a good and sound decision to junk javafx. Too bad Sun didn’t see it. Imagine all those resources invested into swing/vm/jws/applets - sigh
Cool, nice to see the Slimshady project still alive, thought it was scrapped after Ken Russell left.
Interesting though, last I remember it was powered by Ardor3D, wonder if its still the case.
Still has it in the background. This was the tech that was shoved aside due to lack of vision (SIGH) and political nonsense. Glad to see aNt out of there and off to work on an awesome new project.
Can’t believed he’s blagged that PS4 gig

I can. aNt is awesome! This is the most frustrating part. The fact that we were all together at Sun, TRYING to get this stuff out, and would run into legacy roadblocks, one after another, is the most disappointing bit of all. Glad to see him use his talents in a place that recognize them.
Ant left Oracle too? oh dear, think he was one of the last Oracle employees that still frequented this forum (Trembovetski is last one now, i think).
Still unclear as to what’s happening with Slimshaddy, has it been scrapped? or still planned for release?
WTH is all this? I feel left out.

I thought it would use Prism as its JavaFx? Or does Prism use Ardor3D?

I remember on his blog he said it was getting scrapped or something but I keep seeing him doing more work on it.
The Slimshady project is not JavaFX or Prism its a separate project.
some searching around reveals this blog post
From there it looks like as if it was a design tool to match the capabilities of Unity3D.
Further the above video/demo was being prepared to be shown at Oracle OpenWorld (not at JavaOne?) but got pulled by Oracle.
So looks like it was in development up until relatively recently, so might still be in the works.

Well I keep seeing JavaFX code here: http://blogs.sun.com/chrisoliver/
Has some awesome video/music stuff, which I’m guessing the same video libs that were used in JavaFX.
Well I hope something gets released from the amount of work that’s been put in it.
DING! DING! DING!
Threads like this make me cry…
There is still hope as there is no actual confirmation that its been killed and it could still be in development (unless you have some insider info?:)). Only thing we know is that Oracle pulled the JavaOne demo at the last minute.
Maybe Oracle is just saving it for next years JavaOne and didn’t want it to make the JavaFX’s stuff at this years JavaOne look bad.
Yeah, and maybe if we really, really believe, we’ll all get ponies this year for Christmas.
(Yes, I’m a bit jaded.)
