it may be available for ADC member to download the beta rel of JDK 6.
BtW Java 5 is easy to dereference from java 6 code. I don’t use JDK 6 specs at all for my programs, therefore I can port them from various platforms (actually WinXP and OSX). :-\
As far as I know Java 6 will ship with OS X Leopard, so Apple is only 10 months late this time :
Is it possible to distribute the mac JRE with your game if you actually have the JRE? If not, it seems almost pointless to use newer JREs for mac games. People with older versions of Mac OS X won’t be able to play if they have to have the JRE preinstalled.
It’s easy to embed the JRE for WIndows.
You can’t ship JREs for the Mac. It’s a tradeoff between being guaranteed that Java is in the O/S versus being able to use the latest whizbang stuff at the expense of a bigger download.
Basically, 1.4 is your baseline for Mac deployment. 1.5 is catching up fast.

Is that because it’s technically not possible, or because you’re not allowed to actually use the Java 6 from ADC?
Both, I think. I may be wrong.
