Java platform fighting game

check out this Java game

Loading hell! I’m sitting on a 512Kbs DSL connection, but at peak was receiving data from the server at 56Kbs. (WinME, Mozilla 1.4, Java 1.4.2.)

I got a grey screen a few times, but after a few resets got the menu to appear. Pressed ENTER and it began to download assets (might want to put a “Loading…” there - it looks like it’s broken and most people will just give up).

Froze on “9 of 36 images loaded” for several minutes, then got stuck on about 32. Loaded more and more items, and finally started the game.

I was dead before I could work out what the keys were, and now the scene is left with three guys waving their fists around, with me no longer there. I guess I have to press Reset and wait for a full reload to try again? :-/

EDIT: Arrrgh! The music won’t stop! >:(

Moved from J2ME section

Hi,

get stuck between loading image 1 and 2 of scene.

ciao torsten

I managed to kill one of the three Ricos, elegantly throwing a knife. Took 15 minutes

There are some issues with the game that even kinda got on my nerves…the next version of this one will be much better and 3D since I do that more often now I want to experiment with how will I can use Java3D to make strong graphics

Crashed as soon as i tried to exit the help screen (some kind of null pointer with drawing, i’d try and reproduce it but it took way too long to get there :stuck_out_tongue: ).

No offense, but the drawings look like crap. I assume you drew them and scanned them in, spending 10mins to clean them up and remove all the random sparkly pixels would work wonders.

And the music won’t stop, damn you!

Can you be anymore rude? The drawings look great and have a consistant style, although the presentation would most likely look better with some cleanup like the rude one said. Its obviously not professional work, but VERY good for an amateur.

Believe it or not some people choose concentrate on gameplay as opposed to the latest wizbang 3d hardware accelerated fluff.

Sorry, but that comment just really didn’t sit well with me. Anyway, I didn’t play the game, it didn’t load past the first few frames.

Well it was perhaps a bit harsh, but it’s just really annoying to see drawings that have a lot of potential overshadowed by dodgy edges and millions of stray pixels.

The refinment part of a drawing is perhaps the most important to go from the initial sketch to a final piece. Not bothering to spend just a few minutes on this just makes it seem like lazyness.

a few million stray pixels is what seperates my ‘art’ skills, from a blank canvas ;D

I actually really liked the graphics. =)

They feel a bit “crude” and have some artifacts, but they look artsier than most graphics, and have a nice mood.

And it’s refreshing to see a game with original graphics for once.

I agree the drawing do look crappy… I should have spent more time one alot of thing for that particular game. http://www.angelfire.com/comics/vikktorious/graphics.html
has better sample of actual grahic work I did.

On my machine after a very long load it finally came up and was all pixelated but I kept on playing it anyways. My character started invisible and I heard someone shooting and then I sort of appeared alpha blended with the background then I was floating through the air and I had no idea what was going on so I shut it down. The applet sound however kept on playing so I had to actually shut my browser down in order for things to return to normal.

I had the exact same experience.
