Java on xbox 360?

The other day I stumbled on this: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21295

I have to admit I’m not very knowledgable about the latest XBOX, but I was under the impression that there was no java on it.
The above link, however, shows NesCafe running on an xbox 360, which is a full J2SE application which even needs some performance as well (NesCafe being a NES emulator). Does this mean we do have J2SE on xbox or did I miss something?

Erik

Interesting… it appears that they’re using the XP’s Media Center (not free IIRC) and have NesCafe on a webpage. Is NesCafe capable of running as an applet? It could be that they’ve just got the old MS 1.1 VM on there (although that would be somewhat silly).

NesCafe can run as an applet, but IIRC it’s java 1.3 and up. It could be that they hacked it to work on the MS VM 1.1 though ( for example the article mentions that sound is not working and I’m pretty sure nescafe uses JavaSound).

most interresting - lwjgl on xbox 360 anyone ?

appears to be SUN’s jre by the looks of the html files on the emulator

Uhm… sorta. Well, you cant be sure since it uses the applet tag instead of the object tag. So it could use the ms vm aswell.

I’ve been told that it runs on Win MCE and simply controlled through the XBOX.

Ah I see.
Still it’s a neat idea, and it does bring java to the console. Well, kind of.
Now let’s hope everybody will hook up their Win MCE box to their XBOX 360

I can’t get that link to work but there is more info and the html in the rar points you at suns site to get the vm
