Java.Net Project Approval

Ok, a test for the new board, when they get time  Maybe even a topic for the first meeting.

The project approval system on the mailing list (all this +1 stuff) isn’t working. There have been a couple of public complaints and it simply doesn’t seem to be reactive enough.

Could it moved over to the forums? Add on a fixed time to approval/disapproval system (say 2 weeks? then evaluate the results of the poll) and it might work a bit better. Not quite sure.

Kev

PS. Is this how the board are going to want things raised?

I don’t have a problem with the current system. Actually I wouldn’t mind seeing a lot more stuff move to the mailing lists instead of the forums. It could solve some other issues like the dreaded missed notifications of thread updates. Discussion of specific project development (ODE, Xith, JOGL, etc.) could move to the lists, and the forums could be used for more general discussions about using those.

While I’d personally prefer to use the mailing lists for these kinds of things, the reality of it is that the dev alias goes largely unread, which has begun to leave proposed projects in limbo. While it may not be ideal, moving the approval process to the forums may be the best way to ensure these proposals get the attention they deserve.

I’ve sent an email to the new board members recommending they address this issue in the first meeting.

I’ll leave that to the board to determine, but I think a topic dedicated to community issues might be the best option.
